"Supplied water to Birmingham And Liverpool " Also supplied a large number of the teachers who educated the poor of that city. The Scouse accent contains elements of the accent of NE Wales, not the other way around. The Welsh influence on the growth of Liverpool is often overlooked.

"Technically they’re English Actually stidies suggest that the Welsh are more British than the English Given that the English are Germans, that's hardly surprising." Tbf, the Celts came from central Europe too, though there seems to be a great deal of argument about how they got to Britain. Whilst I like the way the Welsh preserve their language and 'culture' I dislike the whole 'we were here first' business. Where I live in South Wales the population exploded during the industrial revolution, all South Walians today are a much mongrels as anyone else in Britain. Even if you ignore the fact that Wales was invaded by the Romans and Normans (those beautiful castles dotted around aren't celtic) you can't escape the modern influx of people from all over Europe and todays day to day culture in Wales is very little different to that anywhere else in Britain. Of note though the first railway line was in Wales as was the invention of industrial scale steel production - two ideas that shaped the world. Mr

"The NHS was brought to you by Aneurin Bevan. But more importantly, what did YOU do that makes you think the Welsh should do anything for you? Gbat " Ignorance is rife among many. If this had been said about a coloured person, the poster and some responders would have been banned for racism. As a Welshman, I take offence to this post.

Generally I find the forums less argy bargy than when I was here before under different profile names. No offence intended. It’s an imitation of ‘What did the Romans ever do for us?’ I’m currently holidaying in Wales. The most laughable bit was being challenged on why I didn’t post in the Wales section? It never even occurred to me to do so. Then when I joke I never go below swingers chat someone investigates to prove me wrong! But overall a fun thread.
