World suicide prevention day 2021

Today is World suicide prevention day so just wanted to post that it is OK not to be OK and that it is OK to reach out and ask for support.

There are many great organisations that can provide support either through simply listening or through more tangeble means.

Having recently supported people at work through this and having had family take their own life when I was younger I know just how hard talking about suicide can be.

We should also take the time to remember those we have lost because the world seemed too much for them.

For anyone struggling, please reach out

Appreciate the offer. Am fortunate have people can talk to but just with distance and time gap don't want to lower tone of first family visit in ages. They know some but maybe not the frequency of the idea or the previous half attempt

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

Rethink Mental Illness has a guide on their site on how to support someone with suicidal thoughts, warning signs to look for, where to seek help and what happens, and how to get support for you in the process.

Can never be said enough about getting help! Though in that moment it's hard to see beyond and hard to describe the experience to anyone having not...

I've been there though (totally missed the beast from the east, I almost succeeded) but would always be willing to talk to anyone feeling it!!!

Thank you so much for this post.

Tier was a night about a year ago. Was all about mental health in this room.

One lady had lost a pet she might remember it some one was asking for help and found it amongst us the members to are non judgmental by natchers of how we are.

And i asked for a mental health room but I was proven wrong.

Would you go to that room to give support no the lounge is the best place as lots come and go so it is the space to reach out.

So if anything I have learnt is if you need to reach out this is the place.

This is a great thread, thank you Evie, we need to be able to have these discussions as hard as they are because this threat is real and it is on the increase.

Keep talking, then talk more and talk again. Just keep talking

Check in, check again and look out for the quiet ones, the ones who keep putting the game face on and keep saying "I'm ok"

Excellent and important thread OP.

It must be such a fine line between carrying on and taking that awful final decision, and any support and contact could just make the crucial difference.

I'm good though be lieing if I said I still don't have moments when the darkness sets in but, life is meant to challenge. And no more a man for admitting it just another of life's chapters but it gives me experience and an understanding of anyone ever wanted to talk. X

Not so long ago ..... playfullsam asked us to do the online prevention course.

I did mine.

Everyone should do it. One day you may need to act and the course will have helped.

Sites like that are great but also need to bear in mind not everyone shows outward signs. I have dark thoughts most days, even if briefly but most people I interact with would not know and may think I have an OK life

Such a nice post and thoughtful! I really appreciate it. It's horrible having low moods and days and it becomes easier to wear a mask! Especially if it's all you have known. I lost my daddy to suicide when i was younger, I didn't know him as a child though! He was nice the brief time i knew him. I have found cutting toxic people out your life helps a little! Even if it's family and unfortunately an horrific ex too which was a few years ago. It's not healthy getting used to being around abuse, drugs, and violence from a young age and alcohol isn't an excuse to keep forgiving but we all have a limit. Whoever you are don't ever think you are worthless, Everyone has worth! Even if you don't always see it. xo

When you meet up with friends, look around the group and notice the one who isn't there, the one nobody's seen for a while, the one who disappeared out of your lives so quietly you didn't notice them go.

Call them. Visit them. Check up ok them. They're at home, alone, wondering if anyone ever cared that they were there.

Or even if they are there but they seem they are not, they are not joining in on the chat, they seem distracted, they leave suddenly without notice.
