That the speed limit seems to have become more of a target that you must reach as quickly as possible and remain at that speed no matter what and regardless of any obstacles or road conditions.

also it seems arriving at a corner/junction/roundabout, no slowing down until the last possible second??

just an observation of how people tend to drive of late.

It’s actually part of the Highway Code to drive at the speed limit if you can. It’s potentially unsafe not to

It’s actually part of the Highway Code to drive at the speed limit if you can. It’s potentially unsafe not to "

and the magic words there are "if you can" it's when you can't that i'm on about but some still do

Adapt your driving to the appropriate type and condition of road you are on. In particular

do not treat speed limits as a target. It is often not appropriate or safe to drive at the maximum speed limit

This is what it says about treating speed limits as targets. So yes drive at the limit if you can but you don’t have to rush to get there

Right I was thinking the people that do 50 in a 60 on a straight road

Not on my way to and from work it is not. A lot of people drive at 10 miles below the speed limit or just amble along looking at the views.

The low quality levels of driving standards here are atrocious.

There are people who don't make good progress when driving, causing considerable inconvenience to others, potentially influencing others to start avoidable manoeuvres that put more people at risk.

With good visibility, weather, road conditions etc, excessive dawdling on our highly congested roads isn't making the best use of our transport investments.

We could probably reach near full employment for a few years, if we were to have poor drivers trained and tested, until suitably high driving quality standards were achieved.

The speed of entry onto a roundabout is a nightmare here and goes something like this:

Roundabout, glance right, foot down, no indication, no lane discipline and as fast as you can.

We then have the middle lane hog that basically turns a 3 lane carriageway into a 1 lane.

They seem to have had the same memo. Drive at 50 in middle lane if the motorway is free flowing, if speed restrictions are in place, continue to drive in middle lane 10mph below the restricted speed and at no point will you move over.

Yep. Just because you can do a certain speed, doesn’t mean you should.

An example would be 60mph on a winding country lane, where you could meet cyclists/walkers/horses round a blind bend.

I'm more worried about the amount of nobbers who think it's acceptable to drive at 70/80/90 on a 40mph dual carriageway. Even worse when 2 of them together decide that it's a section of track to hold dragster races on.

The section of the East Lancs Road from the M6 junction into Manchester is a joke. (Yes I know part of this is 60MPH but regularly get people doing 100+ on that stretch as no cameras).
