"This all comes down to your why. The reason that you are prioritising one thing over another. Does one thing mean more to you? Or the other just not enough? " Some jobs aren't about what is important for you.

"Don’t try and aim for a work/life balance OP. Look for a balanced life Please could you explain that more. " Rather than try to keep 2 aspects of your life separate look at them as a whole. When we separate things in our life it takes more time and effort because without knowing you are becoming 2 people. One for work and the other for family/friends. The time it takes to switch mindsets is wasted and takes energy

"I changed my career to a job with huge job satisfaction on a lower salary but with a 4 day flexible week. Yes I’m poor. But god I’m happy. " Good for you. Find a job you enjoy and you never work a day in your life!

"C, I think your family understand that what you do is a vocation and requires a certain level of sacrifice. I bet they're incredibly proud of you. I'm the worst person to be giving advice about work/life balance though. For me, work is pretty much the only part of my life that I can still do without any difference AND I'm not treated any differently by colleagues etc than before I became disabled. Therefore I think I spend longer than I should because it's my one tie to being/feeling normal. Psychology the fuck out of that! " I’m happy too Because work has become as comfortable part of you it has become part of your identity, part of who you are. Outside of the ‘safe space’ that you have in your mind it’s, well not you

I'd imagine it's the same for your family - the life you guys have (including your work) is how it is. Do YOU want to do less work and more other stuff? Or do you feel you have to for other people/other reasons?

"My work/life balance is currently 50/50 (4 days on, 4 days off) Switching off from work is incredibly easy, just like a flick of a switch, once I’m out of that door I don’t give it another thought. I try to plan and manage all the boring stuff, ie chores, to minimise the time and effort they take and therefore maximise my leisure time. It’s working very well so far." I envy that.

"How do you all balance work and the fun parts of life? X" I quit my 50 plus hour a week, high pressured job in Pharmacy dispensing in London in 2006 because it was consuming me and taking over my life. Had to get out of the rat race before it did my head in. Moved 280 miles for calmer cleaner safer quality of life. Never been so broke in the bank account, but no regrets. Much more time to myself these days... chilled most of the time... not going back to full time work for all the money in the world.

"I will but at a glance it doesn't take account of the fact that sometimes it is hard to put yourself ahead of others needs. For example, a soldier can't say they aren't going to work because peoples lives may depend on it. "

"I'm self employed.. I chose it so I could manage the balance. It comes with a hit though.. Sometimes finances are tough to manage but Im there to spend time with my kids, myself, lovers and family. My son doesn't gave the trainers he REALLY wants but hopefully one day he will appreciate my choice. " Nothing wrong with Dunlop greenflash

"Tell me about it, juggling family life and looking after children, with running our own business, to doing housework, being taxi for our children to take them to work and hobbies, to fitting in exercise 5 days a week, uuuurgh it's hectic and tiring. We do try and go out either with friends or by ourselves every other weekend though as we need some playtime. All work and no play isn't good for anyone. " Absolutely!
