Hastings is perhaps not typical of the South East as a whole though. Slightly different note, it's been many years since I was last there but you mentioning Hastings reminded me of happy childhood memories. The fishermen's huts and a little shop selling wooden toys and stuff

There is an old legend that in olden times, pedestrians, horse riders and carts would not ride over the spot where Harold fell. They would drive around the spot and this became a natural roundabout and the first invented. I am not sure this is true or wether Harold actually existed. It could be a fable..."Harold definitely existed. As to the roundabout story I couldn't say if it's true or not and I can never tell big you're serious or taking the Mick, hence I always pay you the respect of taking you seriously. What I will say is that the spot they previously believe he was killed on is quite some way from the place some now think it to be. | |||

I quite enjoyed it tbh! Listening to the commentary of the events of the battle as you walk around the place where 7000 men died, and our country changed forever afterwards, was sobering. Everyone knows ‘1066, the Battle of Hastings, Harold and the arrow in his eye’, but how many have actually been there, and how many actually know the battle wasn’t even at Hastings? "I probably found it boring because as you might imagine I've had it all drummed into me since primary school so none of it was new to me. I do enjoy the actual abbey ruins though | |||
