Why run back to your ex

Over the past couple of weeks on my social media I've had friends that I've known for years that always go back to an ex when they have cheated a number of times it's like you always get told once a cheat always a cheat I just don't understand why they have the need to go back

I tried 3 times with my ex wife before finally admitting it was a bad situation. For me it was that we had children and didn't want to have them go through us getting divorced. Woke up when I realised us breaking up and getting back together all the time was doing them more harm.

Because some don't want to be alone? Or maybe just need a spooning partner for the winter. Lol I would rather be alone then with someone and not happy personally! Also if they have cheated they must of forgiven them, which is their choice it wouldn't be me a toxic relationship never ends well.
