Just home from Liverpool, nothing to eat in, dinner plans fallen through.

Could really go for a nice carvery!

What's your approach to a carvery? I practically become a structural engineer lol tonnes of veg, Yorkshire pudding, all the meat smothered in gravy

We went to a carvery a few weeks back and the staff plated your food for you. Well as I love all veg my plate resembled a pyramid and I was a little embarrassed doing what felt like a walk of shame back to our table.

I polished off the lot though peeps

Veg and spuds next. Followed by Yorkshire.

I love loads more veg too! A palm size of meat. Minimum 3 veg to 1 portion of meat.

I normally go for 5 veg or more (if possible.)

I'm a sucker for a roast spud though...

I'm not sure where the most local carvery is now as it's no longer there & it's also a Lidl?????

I’ve only been to a carvery once and although the food was good, I hate different foods all piled on top of one another, each bit has its place, so watching them plate up is stressful

Thinking about a carvery - I can literally smell one now having seen the posts on here - for me the really important parts are roast potatoes, mashed potatoes, cauliflower cheese, red cabbage and there absolutely has to be a decent cranberry sauce to improve the flavour of turkey/ chicken.

I can't eat large meals and I love my veg so I have a small amount of meat, a small Yorkshire pudding, a few potatoes, then load up with vegetables and smother in gravy.

Was in Yorkshire last year. Had a roast at a pub that blew my mind. It was Sunday, it was roast beef with some pudding thing they do in Yorkshire. Gravy was epic. Tasted like my mum made with veg water and meat juices with cornflour and stock. Was so good I go on for ages about to this day to people who give not one shit

Two meat no veg . Patatoes are the exception .ham and beef are my choice As much Yorkshire puddings as you can fit and a condiment for each ; bread source ,gravey ,English mustard

I separate them - the mashed potatoes go between them.

So he has asked for a large plate rather than a small….

Basically the Toby Carvery is my treat to myself… although they don’t do coleslaw as one of their sides which disappoints me!!! I just tell the not to go overboard on the gravy as my food doesn’t need to be swimming in it

I always rearrange my plate. I stack the meat as close to the edge as possible (generally take it home for the dog) with Yorkshire pudding on top & stuffing in the dipped bit. I then fill the plate with veg & roast potatoes & cover in gravy & mint sauce. I’m not veggie but love veg and my lot are quite fussy so I get to eat lovely red cabbage, cauliflower cheese, cabbage, parsnips & swede

I love a Sunday roast but I hate the mess some people manage to create by piling everything together and it looks like a hot mess! Id struggle to eat it

So for me, as I’m ultra visual, I like less of it but that looks appetising for the eyes. Ideally I’d like my gravy on a jar to the side so I can pour a little bit over it . Meat wise I tend to go for Chicken and pork. 1 York if I’m feeling like I need to pig out , and lots of pretty veg (particularly carrots, green beans, peas are okay) and roasties.

Roasties must be crunchy

I’m very specific so Gatro pubs or restaurants are the place for me

I have no clue if that was a thing, I've only ever been once. I agree on the gravy although I think the one I went to let us pour it ourselves. The trust!
