Your favourite musical?

Jump to newest

This is a tough one for me, unlike my favourite film, as there are a number of musicals that I would gladly watch over and over again, such as The Sound of Music, Singing in the Rain, West Side Story, Kiss Me Kate, The King and I, My Fair Lady, Oliver, Oklahoma, Grease, etc. etc...

If I have to choose only one as a desert island disc for the genre, then it will have to be Singing in the Rain.

What is your favourite musical?

As a kid it was Godspell but my all time fave is Showboat. Old man river, I could have danced all night, I'm gonna wash that man right out of my hair.

Dammit! I now have an earworm.

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

I love all of those listed so far. My gut answer to this question is always West Side Story.

Followed by Sound of Music, Singin' in the Rain, Cabaret, Calamity Jane Spamalot and so many more.

I saw Avenue Q on Broadway and adored it so much I had to drag people to it when it came to London. I still laugh at the interval countdown... 5 night stands, 4 night stands... and Everybody is a little bit racist.

I'm not a fan of musicals but Blood Brothers is fabulous.

Special mention for one line in a song from 'Seven Brides for Seven Brothers'. In a sad song, when they have been forced to sleep in the barn, one brother laments:

A man can't sleep,

When he has to sleep with sheep.

I burst out laughing but apparently it's not meant to be a funny line!

Ooh sooo many to choose from and all for different reasons. I went to see Oliver a couple of years ago and was blown away by the whole thing as the staging and cast were amazing, but then I love loads from the old black and white Deanna Durbin and Judy Garland musical films right up to the fairly recent ones like Mamma Mia and the Lion King.

Rocky Horror, oh yes!

It's so dreamy, oh fantasy free me, so you can't see me, no, no, no, not at all. In another dimension with voyeuristic intention, well secluded, I see all...

I love love love Rocky Horror.

What have you done with Janet? Nothing. Why? Do you think I should?
