What singers do you like and what song would you recommend folk to listen to, to get a feel for said singer. I'm only picking two to begin or I'd be here all day

Axl Rose, give estranged by Guns n Roses a listen

Tarja Turunen, give Sleeping sun by Nightwish a listen.

Females, well Suzanne Vega has a voice that is like a lover whisperin' in your ear on a sleepy Sunday summer lie in.

Letitia Sadier from Stereolab has a great voice in that French tradition, like Edith Piaff but not.

Liz Faser from The Cocteau Twins/This Mortal Coil and Massive Attack, folky and acrobatic.

Julianne Regan from All About Eve has a voice that is so suited to English folk.

Missin’ Yo’ Kissin’

Sorry skim read (didn't read properly...)

Glenn Hughes - "Catch The Rainbow". It's off a tribute album to Ronnie Dio. Bluesy & soulful. It nesrly melts my heart...

Liza Carthy - Beautifully done! "Blood On My Boots" from the album Neptune. Very tuneful & Melodic - but the subject matter a little weird? Great for Haloween. The band singing in a taunting way with their "na,na,na" and "nee-nar,neenar." Love it! "I was drinking champagne with Jerry Springer...."

Within Temptation (Sharon Den Ardel) - "Faster." Her vocals are very strong on this & it's an arse kicking track too! Pedal to the metal!

"Aaron Lewis - Staind - Outside, solo album the road - Forever, or search for a cover of what hurts the most

I'm ashamed to say I've never listened to his solo stuff but love Staind

He went from a rock singer to a country singer, not a fan of country music but his voice does suit the genre"

I'd say so, I love the gravelly tone to it

Liverpool

Johnny Cash, either the rich baritone of his peak years or the broken croak of his dotage. Both are awesome but I prefer the latter; there is just a richer depth of emotion escaping from the cracks in that once mighty oak of a voice.

Try his cover of Gordon Lightfoot's If You Could Read my Mind for a stunning example of the latter.
