Using the same arguement but with a lime - i'd have to guess the fruit!

I'm sure lime green wasn't a colour many thought of before spotting one!

The fruit of course. Way before we had language to describe different things.

You're going to tell us we're wrong now arent you?

That oranges are described in an ancient sumarian text as being given to is from the skygods, the fruit with the colour of sunset.

Something like that?

Sorry I beg to differ. The orange was invented by a chap from del monte back in the 70's i believe

the man from del monte is a man..... from the company del monte. this man is a real man who travels to the furthest corners of the world to select the greatest oranges and other produce for his fruit juices. upon seeing them, he says "yes".

He is a real man, and not a concocted effegiy to sell fruit juices (Urban Dictionary)

The man from del monte - widely respected in the fruit horticulture business until he was photographed with pineapple rings on his cock and banana up his arse. Sad times

If I am going to be totally geeky about it I would say.... The perception of colour is a sensory experience. The colour of an object is seen by the eye when white light is shone upon the object's surface. The surface reflects some colours and absorbs others. It is the reflected light that is picked up by the eye. For example , An orange is reflecting orange light and absorbing all the others.so I guess you would have to find out weather the orange (fruit) excited b4 the first being that could observe colour.

The colour...

Originally, and many varieties to this day, an orange had green skin...;-)

the answer to this eludes me,was the fruit named after the colour? or was the colour named after the fruit? The fact that oranges are green at first would suggest they were named after the colour and not the other way round but i could be wrong
