Was surprised today to learn that the bank which the HMRC and the MOD use (and therefore no doubt other government departments) isn’t one of our fine upstanding British banking institutions, nor one of those where the state is the biggest shareholder, but actually the American bank; CitiBank

Only in this country will we farm out government business to offshore based organisations – all in the name of open procurement in accordance with EU policy .. though would hazard a guess that most other EU countries would find a ‘legal’ way of ensuring a domestic organisation provided the service; especially a lucrative service such as Banking facilities
