East London

The American swings.

For some reason they were taken away when I was about 12.

Maybe because loads of us used to pile on and sometimes fall off.

Massive metal roundabout thing that would fling you off with force when it reached a certain speed.

It wasn't for the faint-hearted.

For me its being able to meet lots of other kids and play with them. So annoying when my lunch break ends and I’ve got to go back to work

I loved the witches hat - total health and safety nightmare these days so I guess they are all long gone...

also the horse or boat... either would attempt to fling you off/out lol but the goal was always to go faster/higher with everyone else

kids were mad back in the day

On a mooch

The old wooden roundabouts with metal divide segments. Someone would push it as fast as possible, then we’d hang off upside down your feet tucked under the metal bar to try and be the first to pick up the object that had been placed underneath the roundabout. Or the old fashioned swings that you could get up and over the top bar.

Healthy & safety would have heart failure today

We had that for years you had to be careful not to be pinned on it.

Older ones stopping you getting off and it being spun hard.

Caught by the bar a few times that hurt but it didnt stop me.

Spun it myself but would stop when they had enough.

Had large metal slide and the high swings which we all swung over the metal bars often.

Slide got removed and they replaced it with a slide log climbing frame well that was just as dangerous

swings got damaged by the younger generation than me always been mean by swinging swings to the top bar.

And ripping a bar out of the ground.

Mine was the small discrete bit of land up in the corner of the playground with a 6 foot hedgerow all around it, mind you I was 18 years old and she was 23

The roundabout. It was ace until the moped trend caught on and parents had it removed after pulling their mangled broken kids out the surrounding trees. Sad times amigo. Sad times

What moped trend? I think this missed us. Our roundabout was removed because folk kept having sex on it.

I quite enjoyed the swings. I did like the slide too but I have always had large thighs and getting a bit wedged half way up a big fuck off slide is no joke when there are other kids raving to get on it and you’re holding them up.

There where loads of videos popping up on on various sites about a decade or so back. Basically youd have the idiot teenages sit on the roundabout then one idiot teen with his moped would put the back wheel of said moped on the roundabout and rev up.

The laws of physics are a bitch and dont care how stupid 17 year olds are.

In the middle

The swings, always loved the swings, it was like flying. We had some massive slides built on concrete mounds, super slippy metal slides that you would shoot off the end of, but they burnt your bum in the summer heat

The slide, we used to get waxed bread wrappers and polish it up to be super fast so you flew off the end.

Few deep cuts, scrapes and bruises but nothing broken or chipped, surprisingly
