Hi to all the ladies out there ,too much stigma & shame attached to this subject I could really do with talking to other women going thru this , a test in January confirmed I am going thru ‘M’ & I started HRT in January this year, it’s removed a lot of the symptoms I was having however I’m still getting some issues with bleeding which is currently being investigated by hospital (waiting on results) sadly it’s spoiling my fun as I can’t really meet or play so no fun since end of June

I agree that there's a stigma attached to menopause and peri menopause. Saying someone is menopausal is often used as an insult and frequently has the word cow attached to it.

I have been fairly lucky in that I haven't experienced many symptoms except my episiotomy scar has shrunk which can cause me pain. I massage it with coconut oil and use estrogen cream

Thank you for taking the time to reply, I’ve just watched the davina McCall channel 4 programme aired in may called sex myths & menopause I don’t particularly like her as a presenter however the programme is def worth a watch & thank you I’m just waiting for biopsy results so a little anxious, I haven’t had a period since last year which is why they’re investigating it, however it seems there is a discrepancy from my GP the one in January told me to stay on contraceptive pill as I can still get pregnant but last week I was refused a repeat prescription & told I shouldn’t be on it ! I’ve written a letter voicing my concerns which I’ll hand into surgery tomorrow as the GP last week said I can’t get pregnant , I’m very worried at being told 2 different things

I must watch that program.

I've been told two different things about the estrogen cream I use. Two doctors have told me it's safe to use twice a week another told me it isn't.

I've gone with the two.

I'm no expert obviously but, I was still having periods until I was about 55/56 and only had my coil removed when I was 57. I had a gap of nearly two years between my penultimate and final two periods. (The ages I've stated here might be out by a year or so). I also had a pregnancy at age 46. So if I were you I'd use a form of contraception.

Thank you for this thread lovely, you are right, there is a lot of stigma which is silly because it is part of human development

I hope things are equalising for you.

I think I am peri menopausal, the signs are there so it is interesting to read about first hand experiences

I am peri menopausal and for me the HRT was a god send.

It really does make meeting difficult, not knowing where you're at with periods/bleeding x

I was on HRT at the start of mine 2 years ago, but got taken off it a few months later because I had a close family member go through endometrial cancer. Like you, I'm also going through tests for unexplained bleeding which is spoiling my fun too. Let's hope they find the cause for us and can get us sorted out xx

I’ve been wanting to start a thread like this for weeks but hadn’t plucked up the courage to do so,

so thanks for that.

I too had abnormal bleeding a few weeks ago and also have been referred to hospital for further investigation. I have a very busy job and that takes my mind off things but I am hoping that in a way it is just the beginning of menopause and not something more sinister.

I think it's very usual to have "abnormal" bleeding and thank goodness they follow it up. I just a friend having tests currently too. I was able to reassure her a little having experienced it myself.

To all of you going through it at the moment the outcome is good way more often than not

I had the abnormal bleeding and biopsy’s. All clear thank goodness but in the end I went on HRT around 2 years ago. I haven’t had a period for 18 months I’m 50.There is light at the end of the tunnel but you have my sympathy. The intermittently bleeding is a nightmare, especially with our lifestyle. Can honestly say my sex drive is the best it’s ever been. So yay for HRT

Sage is a great natural remedy and can help manage symptoms

I started getting symptoms the worst of which was night sweats. They were so bad i had to change the bed linen in the middle of the night.

Then I met a new partner and got put on the mini pill (just in case - didn’t want the patter of tiny feet!)

It cured all my menopause symptoms and stopped my periods all in one hit.

I’m not convinced I’ll ever let them take me off it to be honest!

I read that the symptoms are caused by the hormone imbalance as oestrogen stays high (because it’s in tap water/dairy foods etc) whilst progesterone plummets. The mini pill is progesterone only so it balances back out again.

Don’t know if that’ll help at all.

Unfortunately the option to stay on contraception has been taken away from me which is why I have done a letter to my drs surgery x

I just think it’s better to be open about this there are millions of women out there going thru the menopause & who can we go to for advice ? The davina McCall programme was brilliant can highly recommend watching it on catch up x

I’m so glad I found this thread, did a search as I didn’t want to begin a new one.

I have been having symptoms and quite honestly they are making my life a misery, I can’t sleep at night and when I do I’m waking up covered in sweat, I’m always hot, my skin is greasy and spotty, My mind is like a cloud of fog, I can’t think straight, I have aching joints and my moods are all over the place!!!

Im 43 but had a hysterectomy at 32, still have my ovaries though. Im lucky I’m not having the intermittent bleeding that some of you are having and I really hope all is ok with your test results.

I just needed a little vent and I hope nobody minds me jumping on this thread I’m so bloody fed up!! Oh I do have a telephone appointment with my doc next week.

I'm going through it now and no issues so far (crossed fingers)... I do seem warmer in bed - especially when I've d*unk alcohol, but i guess it is still winter (and i still have multiple quilts +throws on the bed!)

My GP said that diet can have an impact on some symptoms

My friend is in her 6th week of continuous, heavy bleeding, which is very concerning

It is nice to see you ladies supporting each other in what can be a very dramatic and life changing time. Many men don’t realise the changes a woman’s body goes through once she reaches the menopause and I think a little education on that front would go a long way. As we all get older, having a little understanding and empathy for what others are going through is never a bad thing.

I do hope your results are positive and the medical staff can help you with some treatments and therapies that will have you feeling tip top and grand again soon.

It can be awful.. my dr said there was no test to confirm but i suffer from the night sweats, mood swings, severe anxiety at times and my eyebrows definitely thining out, i feel for every woman going through it x

I'm perimenopausal. I suffer from big bleeds too and clots. Keep an eye on those iron levels. My life changed once I got my iron deficiency diagnosed and on pills.

I know the physical symptoms are horrible sometimes. I can feel overwhelmed and out of control. I try to tailor my life so that I can flow with it all.

I also find it an equally powerful and scary time I life. Its time to give plenty to yourself. I like to Talk about it openly and discourage the mocking attitude towards menopausal women.

Good luck OP. Lots of alternative help out there too once you know what's what.

The woman's body changes at an early age to be able to produce kids, then you have to go through labour.

Then your body changes again to stop being able to produce kids.

I'm no expert of course but they do reckon life changes and diet can help with symptoms.

Walking and red wine being two of them but not at the same time I think

Walking, especially through Scottish Heather with red wine is indeed an ancient remedy

Ladies look up “the menopause doctor” by Dr Louise Newson. Lots of very helpful and accurate information about everything and her “ balance app “ is also great.

( she is also on the national specialist training panels so definitely not one of the quacks out there )

I'm by no means an expert but went through surgical menopause 3 years ago following a total hysterectomy.

The first few months were horrendous, but now I've got my HRT sorted I feel like a new woman. Please persist with getting the right levels and the right treatment. It took me nearly 2 years to find the right balance of HRT but so worth it.

If I’m following my mother, I’ve got about another ten years until I get there.

Currently on iron boost to help with tiredness before and during period, which has me sleeping most the day, I can’t complain though as the only side effect, never experienced pain.

Definitely. There are different forms as well so it ain’t that bad!!

Obviously I’m on patches for a safety and easier option and it’s for my transition but it’s essentially the same stuff for menopause.

Another thing I can say, if estradiol only gives problems, micronised bio identical progesterone in addition can level out the “side effects” of estradiol only therapy. If you have side effects!

Never experience any particularly bad ones myself maybe only at the beginning with muscle cramps and feeling weaker and more tired x but it’s all

My wife is going through the big M now. Lots of hot flushes, night sweats, we didn't know it if it was a fever or not so kept doing the COVID lateral flow tests.

The biggest issue is that he libido well and truly gone. Has been for for few years so we think she's been going through this for a while. She's on medication for multiple issues (she's disabled) so that also impacts her libido and means she can't have HRT.

She has no sexual desires at all and that frustrates her because she knows I'm always horny but we haven't been intimate for 10 years.
