I don't think the arenin the wild...I'd say an escapee.

There are flocks of parakeets in London and the surrounding area. What kind of parrot is it? A small green one or a big one with red and green feathers?

There's one flying round my village as it escaped from a house down the road.

Same family also lost a rhea a few years ago and I think it now lives on a local golf course.

Might be a parakeet. Was it mainly on the ground? I'm not doubting your ma in laws knowledge of birds but could it have been a woodpecker?

Sounds like a parakeet. There’s a huge population of them in the Thames valley. I use to live in London, and 20 years ago they were mainly around Richmond, but over the years they have worked their way out along the Thames. 15 years ago they were a rare sight in Henley but now the place is swarming with them. Beautiful birds.
