"Our daughter has got her very first job today, she's just a young teenager but went to her trial day with confidence and proved herself. We are chuffed. What was your first ever paid job?" Paper round- odd jobs but my first salaried job was in the fashion industry in my 20s

"I worked in a pub from when I was 14...." That wouldn't be allowed these days. I bet it was interesting for you. And how much alcohol did you drink at the end of a shift

"Saturday job at 14, collecting and counting the money in Woolworth's. I'm not sure why they let a 14 year old, accompanied by a 15 year old lad, collect the money 3 times a day. It was a relatively large Woolworth's with clothes, furniture, cheese and meat counters and the usual Woolworth's stuff. We picked up a lot of cash just after lunch and in late afternoon." Wow, that was some responsibility

Oh that is brilliant! Well done to her! what is she doing? My first job was a chambermaid in a hotel, felt so grown up as I had a little flat at the top of the hotel. Earned £120 a week and lodging was free, meals cooked by the chef and close to the beach. I loved it
