I do my own thing. There are lots of rough sleepers in my area so I make up pots of pasta and sauce and hand it out. Find tents at carboot sales and charity shops to distribute. If I have a free flat I have offered a laundry and bath service in the past but my tumble dryer packed in a few months back so I've stopped that for a bit. I used to be homeless many years ago and when I got back on my feet I started to donate to shelter. It was only a all monthly amount but they would send so much crap through the post telling me about people's stories. 9 times out of 10 their living conditions were better than mine so I stopped and started volunteering at a soup kitchen.

I saw in my neighbourhood some pre fab housing being built that I really hope are for the homeless as it is a big problem around here. It doesn't help that there are so many professional beggers around and people think they are helping by giving them cash.

I tend to give to whichever local charity catches my eye when I'm feeling generous, but I do sponsor a donkey sanctuary on Kos island.
