Whichever is jam first is the one that wins for me

I ate (part of) one in disgrace

In Dublin for a couple of days, I treated my mate to champagne afternoon tea at The Shelbourne

It's one of those fancy hotels with liveried doormen and starched white egyptian cotton table cloths

It was an altogether very refined affair until, somehow, and to this day neither of us know how, my mate managed to drag the table cloth 3/4 off the table; bottles, glasses, cups, tea pots, plates, cake stands... the fkin lot went

I find it easier to spread the jam on first, then spread the clotted cream on afterwards.

Oh but you can! Cream spreads like butter, and you don't spread the jam. You dollop it.

And then you pop a dollop of cream on top if you're feeling decadent.

Colchester

I've never given it any thought to be honest. I've had a cream tea at The Ritz, and various other places over the years, and never once paid that much attention to the placement of jam and cream. Didn't even know there was such a thing ! Fancy that !

I've always loved the accent. Long before I moved here. It's so comforting.
