couple, us we him her.

A friend at work has just come into some money we got chatting about what he's going to do with it.

He said he's going to buy a brand new car and have a holiday next year.

I said I'd pay off some of the mortgage and get a cock extension

What sensible thing would you do?

Clear debts

New kitchen

Fix rest of house

Adapt house

Buy wheelchairs

Get better car

Go on long holiday

Probably can't afford all that, but I'll do my best

Most of it would go to a house deposit with a small amount being taken out for a car, a treat for the kids and something nice for my mum.

The sensible thing is to clear some mortgage and reduce out goings. At this point personally I’d probably just invest it somewhere … I’ve got the car and I’ve got no mortgage ..

(Being selfish I'm hoping he may throw a couple of grand my way if he can make some money from it with my advice )

A loft conversion with a little Juliet balcony. It would be my office and reading room.

Then, when I need a live-in carer it can be their space.

I'd normally say Property all the way but the market is more than crazy right now but it does depend where you are buying I guess.

If he is single and not a homeowner he could buy a house live in it and rent out rooms you can do this and earn roughly 8k tax free a year or if he has a house he could use it as deposit on an additional btl, hard to say without knowing the circumstances

I would probably go down the property route personally

I’m ok being bald. I’ve been shaved headed since joining the army at 18 but 99.9 percent of knock backs from fabs ladies have been due to hair.

I would spend most of it on girl friends.

Certainly would never buy a new car as they drop a huge amount in value as soon as you drive them away. There is not a new vehicle on the market which I would rather have than my 23 year old Mazda Bongo. They are all now far too clever for their own good and with less and less usable interior space. I want something simple and useful and especially not a European market vehicle bodged for RHD.

Not into home improvements either. My traveling days are probably over as well.

All in all, spending most of £50K on sugar daughters seems the best idea.

visiting the beach

It one of those amounts that's a bit awkward when you start thinking about it.

Not enough to be truly life changing (but certainly life improving if used well).

Quite easy to fritter away on, as you say, a car, a trip to Disney etc. then suddenly it's gone.

I imagine the Money Saving Expert would say pay off a chunk of mortgage as it's a huge saving longer term.

Sod it, rum, gin and cheese...

I had a colleague who retired at 55 and died at 65, so he enjoyed 10 years he might have spent working.

Learning from his case, I took a deal at 52 and am now 76 having forgotten what work was like (not that I worked that hard, so there wasn't much of a wrench).

I have travelled extensively since retiring, including winter breaks every year.

Everyone else seems to have money to burn. Mine all went on women, so I could do with £50K top up if anyone has some spare cash looking for someone to put it to the right sort of use!

£50K doesn't get you much these days, I find... so I'd probably buy more land or another cabin or more tools or another couple of motorbikes.
