Choice words

Shushhhhhhyourmouthville

Is the exact word choice you use becoming more important than what you are actually talking about or what you actually do with your life?

Like if I call dinner tea but it's healthy and well balanced and I spend it with people I care about enjoying free flowing conversation and laughter, is that less or more important than calling dinner dinner and having a giant chocolate cake, alone in the car without using a knife or fork and feeling sad about my day?

I find myself getting more and more intrigued by superficial correctness. Like, fuck the details or overall result and goodness of a "thing" under discussion, as long as we used the correct terminology and look good putting someone else down for not being as "smart" as "we" are even when they wouldn't hurt a living soul. Yeah fuck the details, it's the wording that counts!

Are you a professor of words? Do they mean much to you? Do you enjoy correcting others when, in your eyes, they get their words wrong? Could you care less about people who care too much about wording or is it all about the fine detail?

Also, are you one of all but two people who have sent me boobs this week? If you are, then fgs what are you playing at? Sort it out, plz thx

I don't have much of an opinion clearly, I'd just be fascinated to hear yours.

Thanks

...Bob x

Isn't that the name of the game in the forums bandying words around to be defamatory to other forum users. Defamatory remarks in sheep's clothing to try make themselves appear better than the ones they are directed at. Isn't that why people start threads about them to diss the dissers. Isn't that the forum way

My vocabulary is larger than most but what I don't do is try to belittle those who have one that isn't extensive. In fact, I try to match it to whom I'm taking to.

One thing I'll say if someone doesn't like the way I'm speaking and tries to ridicule me for trying to be posh is "Instead of wanting me to come down to your level, why don't you aspire to raise yourself to mine?" Sounds rather pompous I know but it's only reserved for knob-heads/esses

I guess that could be true in some instances, yes

Other times people are interested to learn something new and challenge themselves, right?

What if the knob heads are already standing on tip toes?

I get it about accents and North/South etc though.

But to answer your typically long winded OP. Words are important but not as important as intention.

And as some have already said silent Bob only ever said a few sentences in a film, unlike you

I tbink words and grammar matter - the meaning is changed (or can me (mis)construed) depending on how its written down - winess the famous book - "Eats shoots and leaves"

That can be the answer to what does a panda eat. The phrase "Eats, shoots and leaves" is the answer to what does a single male fabber do at a swinging dinner party

Some like to call a spade a spade while others will call it whatever they think others want it to be called.

Terminology can be location specific so I'll never correct anyone for their word choice but I have zero respect for those who bend over backwards to ingratiate themselves with others.

I do hear what you're saying. But generally in a conversation or thread here you'd usually know if someone was talking about a Panda's diet or a swinging fella? Same for most other examples and also if you're not sure then what's wrong with asking rather than peacocking or belittling people who don't know what you know? x

Of course! Meet me at Greggs at 5pm mate.

But to answer your question, no, I'm not a professor of words. But I do love words and I love listening to people talk who have a much larger vocabulary than I do. I find it fun discovering new words and growing my vocabulary. If I ever stumble across a word I don't know I'll always make sure to find out the meaning.

I think it gives you more ways of expressing yourself which is always lovely, and if you're into writing it's great to have more words to play with.

I don't like when people correct others, especially if what that person has said makes perfect sense but in a more basic way. It's just a bit pretentious and uncalled for. I also don't like when people use big words in an attempt to seem somehow better than the other person, which is something I've seen happen multiple times. It's shitty and having a large vocabulary doesn't put you above someone else.

I'm not opinionated or anything, obviously, but let's just say if I had an opinion it would be something like learning and growth is everything, whether you know or not Xx

I started a thread last year about experience and i commented that age doesn't necessarily equal experience and not everyone joining this site has had similar life or sexual experience. The thread was inspired by long term members mocking others who asked questions about the life style.

Most people agreed but some argued that it couldn't be classed as mocking because those asking were too lazy to Google.
