Why do people try to convince you that you want the thing you said you didn’t want?

I’ll take a custard cream

I have the same argument with broadband providers. A few years ago one came to my door and tried to convince me that I should switch because my current provider was unreliable. I pointed out that I was streaming live NFL from the US in HD with no problems and he was making me miss the game.
