Is it useful? Is it really? Is it always? Are you any good at it? Are you a susceptible softy to it's charms or are you a hard arsed rock of internalisation?

What if you couldn't influence people, how would you feel about that?

If it's too much then the boob and butt cheeks sending rules apply as always.

Thanks for influencing this thread if you do (or did you?).

Love ...Bob x

No. I’m not very impressionable at all and I don’t think I try to influence people either really.

Ps. Bums on profile.

I agree with the first part.

When you comment on the forum, or communicate with anyone for that matter, what's your motivation, in general terms Nora?

And don't give me that cop-out public pictures excuse!

I don’t think I actually think too much when I comment on here to be honest Bob. I have my opinions (as you know!) and I will voice them but not to change or influence people. No, thinking about I don’t set out to influence. I’m very set in my ways and opinions and I respect anyone else who is also. I know nobody can’t change me so I wouldn’t attempt to change other people. If that makes sense! It does to me

We all influence people on a daily basis. No one is an island. For example, someone pays you a nice compliment, puts you in a good mood and you may then go can give someone else a compliment. Or maybe there will be a thread talking about old friends so it reminds you to mail yours. Influence doesn't have to mean the equivalent of an IG influencer, which to me is a different thing.

.

I think influence can be used in a good and bad way, marketing being a good example of that.

I think every person is susceptible to it on varying levels - we all listen to other people and whether we're aware of it or not, we are influenced to some degree by what we're told/hear. Frida's example of a compliment is a good one. No one, absolutely no one is a hard arsed rock, as much as they might like to think otherwise.

I do have some influence over people, whether that's in a work capacity or outside of it.

If I couldn't influence people (outside of work), I probably wouldn't have the great sex I am. I influence people to believe it would be adequate.

One day hopefully you'll influence me about the sex Meli and I'll let you sample my "life changing magical penis" (not my words )

Until then I'll have to rely on your calming and wise forum influence and I'll pray in my heart that you'll send boobs and things

If you couldn't influence, maybe people wouldn't listen to your advice or you couldn't stop a needless argument, summat like that? Like say for example your words on the forum vanished as soon as you typed them, would you still get the same value from typing them?

I don't think your influence can be taken away though. Even if you think you have none due to abuse, even if you can't see it you have some. Nobody is ever in a position where they can't influence their environment, even if it feels like you are doomed.

I think we influence people whether we do so intentionally or not.

If for example I am a (very unlikely!) role model to somebody... I influence them.

If I choose not to comment on something this would still likely influence those who know me as they could see it as tacit disapproval.

I would, for argument's sake, split influence in verbal (persuading people) and non-verbal perhaps. Not sure.

Would you want to listen to others and see what they were doing?"

If I had no influence of my own how would I be able to decide whose advice to take notice of? Thereby influencing my own outcome?

"We all influence people on a daily basis.

What if your influencing powers were taken away and you couldn't influence anyone else, only be influenced?

I don't think your influence can be taken away though. Even if you think you have none due to abuse, even if you can't see it you have some. Nobody is ever in a position where they can't influence their environment, even if it feels like you are doomed.

But if it was? Say for example Trump having his twatter account suspended or being barred from your local or disowned by your friends and family? Say just lots of things like that happened, so you had no influence, only the ability to be influenced. Answer the damn question my lovely!

Yeah but I've been in that situation, I was disowned by my family at 16, I did loose the vast majority of friends. And of bloody course I can be influenced, there are two teachers who did make a difference at that time. And am to this day grateful to them. And to the handful of people who really got me to turn my life around.

In my weird scenario, you're concious, therefore you can make up your own mind, just not influence others. I guess what I'm getting at is do you value other people's opinions as much as your ability to change them Xx

But as I said in my first post, we influence people without knowing it. Opinions and influence are two different things. Opinions are something vocal to me and are something I listen to and then make a decision about them. Influence can be vocal but also visual or just admiration of how someone conducts themselves. I value both and also dismiss both depending on circumstances.

So, scenario expanded - basically you can see and hear other people (on a camera maybe), but they can't hear or see you, you're just in a box with no access to the outside world, just able to see them, maybe a bit like God for example? Do you think if God was real and he/she was watching us then we'd influence him/her and how would God feel about that having no influence in return?

Was just thinking, we have not really even considered the internalised influence of our parents and grandparents, the scripts we have adopted without realising we have - until they haunt us in adult life.

Just another, potentially rather significant influence.

Feeling like you have no influence on those around you or yourself is not a good place to be. I've been there and I now acknowledge that that wasn't the case. To have no influence suggests to me powerless, and nobody is ever powerless.

I don't know what do you think Bob?

I think that God would need to be superhuman to deal with that!

I guess like being a ghost, just trapped and watching and seeing other people progress and develop and taking on their influence and wealth and growing from it but not being able to offer anything in return

I don't think we value our own ability to influence enough. It's a real gift even if at times we don't necessarily recognise it, what do YOU think Frida?

But I know I do influence people. It's part of my job and it's one of my passions to inspire. Influence I'm not so bothered about I can influence policies etc with data blah blah blah boring. Inspiring people is what I hope to do and I think it's more rewarding.

I could tell, because I was asking you to relinquish your influence with all that bullshit I was typing above above, and your were NOT LETTING GO in a million lifetimes!!!

It's a good feeling, right? When you can help someone with something personal that only you can offer x

Feeling like you have no influence on those around you or yourself is not a good place to be. I've been there and I now acknowledge that that wasn't the case. To have no influence suggests to me powerless, and nobody is ever powerless.

And yes it is a good feeling, to inspire others. Sometimes it makes the shit you've gone through a smidgen more barrable

For you, is it a case of limiting the perceived influence of that past shit? By finding a kind of influence balance point so to speak? x"

My past has influenced me, that is undeniable. But I thought I was powerless back then and that's a dangerous mindset to be in. For me I manage my past it creeps up on me and bites my arse now and again, but it's manageable.

I don't really limit others perception of it. I'm open as about it, and I'm beyond proud of myself to have endured it and come out the other side of it.

"We all influence people on a daily basis.

Your my friend so I know this , BUT, what if you had no influence, you infuriating friend? Xx

Not that it would ever happen, live in my own bubble

Would you want to listen to others and see what they were doing?

If I had no influence of my own how would I be able to decide whose advice to take notice of? Thereby influencing my own outcome?
