No I wouldn't. I won't even go camping. If I'm travelling nowadays I like comfort, electricity, bathrooms and food served to me.

I spent some time in rural India. That cured me of any desire for going back to basics.

I’m pretty good at fasting so only need coffee and to eat one day for survival kit I’ve got my hammock bungee cord and tarp, I’ve got a axe and knife and a pan to boil and purify water and to also cook food, did I mention I got a fishing rod so I’m thinking I’m pretty set haha

did the whole "sleep on the ground and you might die tonight" thing for years, so cant see why I would now do it again.

Id do a bear grylls though, eat mcdonalds while running around pretending I am in the thick of nowhere.

Did a full survival course in the Army. I could survive but wouldn’t do it as a voluntary holiday type of thing.

I do enjoy camping at a festival or bike rally, even some wild camping occasionally but at my age and lack of free time, prefer something more comfortable these days.

I can see the attraction.

I think you can realise that material possessions mean very little without forgoing them though.

I find that I can reset by visiting nearby woodland.

A friend of mine who's 50 went to a private school in the 1980s where at 15 the kids were bundled into the back of a van, driven to a remote location then abandoned with £5 in 10p pieces to phone the school each evening. They had a week to make it back and had to find work to blag meals. It would never happen these days but I can't help thinking it would of been a great character building exercise. I need to complete a catalogue of Risk assessments just to take my kids to the local park lol.

That sounds perfect I guess I gain my experience from being ex army, it’s not like people are soft nowadays they just lack true meaningful experiences for good or worse, I just believe you gotta get out there and experience the world and confront fear and that is pure wisdom and teachings in itself

I just believe that even I don’t have true experiences and that we were never meant to stay in the same place for long , there’s not many times if any where your life is truly in danger and we’re the only species that lives this easy , it may seem dangerous but it’ll make you a better person but there’s a balance between the ties of society and the ties of nature

it’s not just hardship there’s beauty in the world and if there wasn’t a thing called ‘nations’ driving separatism then people would be able to freely leave these places of war zones would they not? Even if it was by walking our ancestor not 400 years ago travelled by foot , god Hannibal walked elephants through the Himalayas

If you had an elephant, then maybe you could pack up your four kids, elderly parents and blind grandparent and walk them to somewhere else. You might even be able to fit some meagre but precious possessions in your "trunk" (See what I did there!).

Then you could sell the elephant to get enough money to have a roof to live under, access to water, some food for your family. Then get a job so that you've got money coming in after the "Elephant Trust Fund" dries up.

Or maybe not as borders actually do exist and elephants are not that easy to come by in the first place. And of course the baddies with guns might also stop you, with or without an elephant in your possesion.

Yes I would love that off grid self suffiency without the government and tech sticking there nose in is an ultimate dream for me specially making a community with real values and people
