Seeing as I am a bus driver I just wondered how many of you good people use public transport.Admittedly it did fall in the height of the pandemic but is picking up now are you one of them

Haven't used public transport in 30+ years.

Mainly because I can get where I want to go in a fraction of the time and at a fraction of the cost.

Even taking parking into consideration it's still preferable because buses don't go where I need them to go and trains are few and far between.

Hardly ever unless I go to a big city.

We hardly have public transport in rural Somerset, the nearest bus stop is almost 2 miles away and it's 20 miles to a railway station.

Nope. Public transport + wheelchairs = a feckin' headache. I had to use the train on one day when my car broke down recently, and although the station I alighted at (at 23:30) was supposed to be wheelchair-proof, it was in fact akin to the ski jump that Eddie the Eagle jumped off. I had to get myself up it, or spend the night on the platform in the rain. I cannot express how hard it was to quite literally drag myself up this slope. I had to use the handrails and every ounce of strength I possess (in the rain). I got covered in bird shit (all over the handrail) and this further impacted grip. I nearly overtipped several times too. To ascend a slope of, perhaps, 15m length (with two "turns"), it took me 40mins. I honestly thought I'd be stranded on the platform until morning.

Thank you to the National Rail app that described that platform as "accessible"

I use it at some point in most weeks. I don't drive so it's pretty much a necessity at times. I do go out of my way to be nice to the bus drivers as to be honest down my way they have to put up with some pretty shitty entitled travellers, especially during summer.

Pity more people dont use public transport! We need less cars on the road! And let's face it it's not necessary to drive! I've got to 64 without the need! X

I can drive but it’s pointless having a car when you live in central London; expensive to insure, exorbitantly expensive to park, plus the congestion charge… Public transport is amazing, I always use it unless it’s a nice day and I’m in no hurry, then I’ll either walk or use a Boris bike.

Policy makers don't seem to differentiate and nor to many members of the public. Throughout the lockdowns, if you couldn't walk or cycle, you were effectively excluded from many places because roads were barricaded off in city centres. Wheelchairs are only a mode of transport for relatively short distances and obstructions are myriad. Only those with extremely strong upper bodies can actually use wheelchairs to go anywhere significant in a wheelchair and it's not a pleasant experience. E.g dog poo abounded during the lockdowns

I used to drive, but gave up running a car a few years ago and since when I've used Public Transport.

I favour buses locally with 2 excellent bus companies in Hull with my Bus Pass, plus use Megabus when travelling across the UK. I rarely use trains as they've become too expensive.

Not at all, there’s no bus service nearby, taxi to the nearest town is £30+ and train station is 15 miles away and I can’t get far on that without a million changes and a long wait for a train

I don't drive but I walk to most places or get a taxi if it's too far to walk. I don't mind the tram as long as it's not too busy. I absolutely hate buses. I've had too many panic attacks on them so avoid them. I don't mind a train journey but rarely have the money to go somewhere nice.

Occasionally I will. There’s somewhere I go, and it’s easier and a lot cheaper to get the bus, than drive and try to find parking, and then pay an extortionate amount for the privilege.

If I’m going to London, or up north I’ll take the train, it’s quicker and easier.

I walk or cycle locally but would always take public transport over the car where possible and affordable. Sadly UK public transport is inferior to many other countries.

Out of interest I looked up Public transport to one of our regular places to visit.

This is a 30 min drive.

Using public transport It would be a 9hr trip and would have cost a 1/4 tank of fuel.

Sorry I will keep using my Nissan Note

It is a bit. What if you live somewhere that doesn’t have those Ubers. God knows how many times a bus comes but there’s none near my house. Probably 6pm every second Thursday! . I understand if people live in a city why they wouldn’t have one. I can’t do without a car. Impossible.

All depends where you live, how you live whether people think a car is necessary. In London, come October, you’ll pay £12.50 a day just to go to the end of your road if your car doesn’t fit into the ULEZ regulations.

we have clean air zones in Birmingham, think it's for older vehicles as I've never had to pay

I don't, primarily because we don't have a unified and co-ordinated network here in the UK

So, for example, I can drive to work in 30-35 minutes

By public transport, it is a 2h35m journey involving three buses and a 20 minute walk

Very rarely use busses as the nearest bus stop is a fair walk from my house. Also I've had to add wheelchair adapted vehicles to my collection at my own expense for my mum because, I'm told that for some reason they only allow one wheelchair on busses at a time, so if someone in a wheelchair gets on at an earlier stop, we are not allowed to get on. If that's true then I see it as health and safety gone mad in an era when using public transport is being encouraged, as I could very easily park up near bus stops, and take her on bus rides using her bus pass.

If I could drop my daughter at nursery/school and get to work by 09:30, via public transport AND not be piss wet through, dirty and hands covered in shit, then I'd take the public transport option. Currently, there's more likelihood of pigs flying!

After pushing the manual chair in the rain, one needs to take a shower and completely change clothes, often including underwear. And don't get me started on the state of the pavements and kerbs
