I was there in Kabul, 2011 and 2012, working for a humanitarian org. Anyone else here that worked there?

It's so sad to see how quickly the country has collapsed and I genuinely fear for some of the Afghan nationals that worked with us on our mission.

I suppose that even though our work didn't make a permanent difference, at least we made some people's lives better for a good few years.

Just seen on the news ppl clinging onto the wheels of a moving US military aircraft.

Everyone is desperate to leave the place.

Going to be alot of changes in very little time.

It's very sad. But 2000+ years of religious hatred for the west can't be undone in the manner attempted so far, or at all, in my opinion.

The west wishes to impose its own views on democracy and freedom, upon cultures some of which don't wish to change at all and they're happy to live in the dark ages.

I genuinely feel for those affected, and what will become of them.

Sadly it was the west and its money that created these factions not any hatred of the west or democracy. Like you I feel for the people who will doubtless suffer.

I think your maths might be a bit out there! 2,000+ years precedes Christianity and Islam. Which ones do you think hated which ones?

OK my years were a little out but it's widely considered the Prophet Muhammed died around 632, some 1400 years ago. Go back to the Crusades for the fight between Christianity and Islam, and similar conflict with others.

I'm not taking any sides or advocating one is right or wrong, but for at least 1400 years there has been fighting influenced largely by religion. Some cultures have learned to live side by side, but others don't wish to. My point is that the west and east view each other only from the application of their own codes and principles.
