Which episodes of the Simpsons do you think were the saddest?

Bart breaking down after still getting an F despite doing his best to study.

Lisa finding out her friend Bleeding Gums Murphy died.

Homer saying goodbye to his mother as she leaves and then looking up at the stars during the credits.

The one where Homer told the story of when Maggie was born when he initially quit his job at the power plant. A heart-warming ending but still felt bad for him

I don't think the show has the soul it had in the early days, unfortunately. but all the main characters in the Simpsons are tragicomic figures (with the possible exception of pantomime villain Burns). At its best, it has produced moments of exquisite pathos for them all, whether its the doomed love affair of Skinner/Miss Krabapple or Smithers' unconsummated longing for Mr Burns.

Yeah. Especially how he used all her photos on the plaque so it says "Do it for her".
