Thinking of the 1970s for our family it might as well have largely been the late 1940s .

We’re you living the 60s in the 80s of even say the 1980s in the noughties?

My mother still lives in the 1950s and I think my dad is probably on a war footing. He certainly imagines that rationing still applies.

Yes. When people remember say the 80s it’s assumed their lifestyle reflected that era.

My parents lived in the past so our house always seemed like an Ealing comedy (not so bad) rather than the garish 70s (though we did have a purple carpet).

La la land

I grew up in a rural farm with my parents and grandparents, it was definitely behind the times. It was a very Victorian mindset. They genuinely wanted to choose who I married at a very young age. I was a disappointment let's put it that way

When you see a period TV drama set in the 1960s, everyone is driving a car from the ‘60s. The reality was that lots of people had old cars from the ‘40s and ‘50s that they kept using. Back then especially, people kept things until they wore out completely.

Now it’s less pronounced, especially as many products don’t last as long.

Still a few old fashioned attitudes around, unfortunately

Yes and the last 20 years feel much the same with not the leap say between the 60s and 80s.

If you're talking attitude - my Mother in the 80s had a Victorian way of thinking.... with a massive dose of contradiction from any decade
