But it says straight

My nan’s spare room.

No matter that the plumb lines, spirit level and tape measure say it’s straight.

This path I’m laying at home looks a bit queer.

My rule of thumb is; if it looks right it is right.

Try not to worry about what the rules say

It depends on what surrounds it. If the ground, fences etc are not level, it doesn't appear level to the eye.

Spin the spirit level around 180 to make sure. Sometimes there is adhesive or cement on the spirit level.

But my first instinct is that other things are not level. Fence posts can be out, house walls can be off when built or subside over time, trees lean(nature is wonky). Sometimes, because of these things, you need to be imperfect to make it look perfect.

If you can still walk along it when slightly tipsy and not get pushed off the path by that imaginary person that appears when you are d*unk, then the path is fine!!

I suggest you test out that theory and see how you get on

You should have used a theodolite or an EDM to achieve pin point accuracy! School boy error

Walk down your path a few times. See if you like it. Might be ok if your path is a little queer. M

I’ve a mix of metric and imperial slabs which doesn’t help.

Maybe just an optical illusion created by the surroundings. It happens often enough.
