How many of you on here are parents?

Do you do anything differently to the way your parents/ primary care giver/givers did things when you were growing up?

..My dad was charismatic, generous & nurtured my interests & hobbies, but at the same time I can also say that he could be a bully, was hypocritical & had an ego the size of a continent..

What good qualities do you try and reproduce ..& and what are the negative qualities you try & improve on?

(I don't have children, but I ponder sometimes on how I would like to think I'd behave If I were a parent.)

Thoughts welcomed.

Parents are just regular humans, it's not like we suddenly flick a switch and go all perfect. I'd say sometimes the switch flips the opposite way because people try to be or try to create something they're not.

I think its entirely natural to try and improve on your own upbringing. For some this is easier than others.

Some people parent Because of their upbringing, and some Despite it.

I try and work on myself all the time, children are excellent at showing us where we need to focus, and the amount of growth I’ve done since becoming a parent as been immense.

We all make mistakes, but we can also improve, by using our experiences and learning.

With the exception of really dreadful parents I think we all do the best we can

La la land

Both my parents are absolute disasters as parents. One at least hasn't physically harmed me.

Am I the perfect parent heck no, but I'm better than my parents though that is nothing to be proud of. I'm constantly learning and my kids are happy and are mischievous but good kids. I hope it continues that way

Honestly I can say I just learned how not to be by the actions of my parents and strive to be apposite as much as possible no disrespect to them if my life was different I wouldn't be the version I am
