If its not someone's home and is, say a council property, then I would prefer someone to have a roof over their heads rather than sleeping rough.

if you got money and can lobby an mp to get a hearing in parliament you can start a motion to get a vote to change the law.

rich+ lots of empty properties then add squatters.

I actually feel that the amount of empty properties lying around is more immoral when people dont have a home. If they done something about THAT then we wouldnt have a "squatter" problem

You then face the "it's my property and I will do what I like with it" crew.

If you think that squatting is equivalent to theft then it is immoral. If you think that leaving people homeless is wrong then it may not be. Just as throwing food away has become a moral issue for many. Those with plenty have a different view to those with plenty of nothing.

I know of a building that was council owned and derelict in Hackney. It wass squatted for several years. The garden was kept tidy, the building was improved and as well as homing numerous people the building became a bit of a drop in/community centre.

And then they were evicted at considerable expense. The building is empty and boarded up and the council pay a private security firm to look after it.

Can anyone tell me the logic in that?

All because a house is empty does not mean it dont belong to someone, and wether i live in a house i own or not i dont feel some random stranger has the rights to decide to move in just because im not living there

yeah the logic is you cant just move into a building that does not belong to you

If you owned a house that was stood empty would you be ok with someone just moving in and living there rent free so long as they kept the garden tidy

All because its a council property does not mean its any more ok to do it than someones house

i feel bad for homeless people i really do but if a sqatter/group of sqatters moved into a house i owned i would b pretty pissed with them just cos somethin is empty doesnt mean u can claim it!!! and most sqats r vandilised and full of used syringes and other drug using equiptment!! would u want this down ur street??

Property is theft.

If you own your residence then you are wealthy within measure. Owning two properties in the most severe housing crisis since the first world war is imoral. People are entitled by English Civil Law to occupy uninhabited properties, the removal of this right is a travesty akin to the Enclosure Acts and shows the Liberal Party in their true light (I dont feel they have a right to clain the Title of 'Democrat' when they regress to their whig roots).

Time for Civil Disobedience once again....

I've delt with squatters personally and some of them multipl times not had one that hasn't broke in and not caused damage and usually aggressive thinking they have a right to someone eles house

I think new rules should have been in years ago

I empathise deeply with homeless people and I feel that given certain circumstances anyone of us could potentially be in that situation. However, I do not believe it gives anybody the right to take over somebody else's property.
