I'd be really interested to do this as I know I have at least 4 different nationalities in me just from the past few generations so it would be really interesting to see.

That's interesting because I had doubts before I did it. One member of my family traced our ancestry back to the tenth century and the DNA results I received pretty much reflected that. I do wonder how accurate they are overall though

I think some are American based whereas one was UK based. The American ones were pretty different to the UK ones. They are all dependent I guess on where they are getting samples from to build up a picture.

I think depends which one. If your nerdy enough like me I watched a video by a geneticist testing them and I used one of the ones she recommended. TBH all my relatives that have used it pop up as the correct relation and also one not often discussed family lineage has come up.

Yes I was shocked and slightly disappointedI expected Europe to be represented far more heavily.

I can only put it down to both my parents coming from families that until the fifties stuck to one area for centuries. Their grandchildrens DNA will tell a very different story

Only in England will you get English people showing dismay at their heritage. Seems many quarters have worked towards this

No, I'm going to disagree with you here. I think one of the reasons people look into these things are to find they are more exotic and interesting than "xyz".

Not really anything to do with politics etc.

We went through an exercise a few years ago, trying to identify as many people in family photos as possible.

It was so sad when we realised we had already lost some of that knowledge with my nana and great aunt dying.

My family on both sides live very long lives so I've been able to find out things from both my parents that their parents and grandparents told them which takes me back (anecdotally) to around 1850.

So do you reckon that you being in the lineage of long livers, you are going to be the one 99year old that is on the end of the 18-99 age range preference

Not exactly inbreeders but there is a point a couple of hundred years ago where my parent's family trees coincide. I think that probably accounts for my extensive charm and undoubted good looks, it's double concentrated all in one package
