A yabby while in Australia.

It kind of looks like a prawn crossed with a crab but really small.

Guinea pig, served on its back, head on, rodent teeth perturbing, claws curled.

Didn’t give the chef any points for presentation.

Alligator in New Orleans. It really did taste like chicken. Tough chewy chicken.

Hog's Head Cheese. Also in New Orleans at the same Creole Restaurant. Cheese fermented in the skull of a pig. It was rancid, smelled porcine and had bristly hairs in it. Think Kraft Dairy Lea with wiry pubes in it. Never again.

Horse in France. It was literally a Shergar Burger. It was a bit "gamey" for my taste.

I think I may have once had Dog. I am certain it came from a Co-Op Store in approx 1975. I am sure it said "Dog" on the packet and I remember it, because it stuck in my mind as being a bit odd to sell in the UK. Whatever it was I didn't like it.

Ostrich. The smell of it cooking made me heave. Didn't try it and chucked it out for the foxes.

Newry Down

Medically, if a person has unusual eating habits it is called Pica.

Weird eating habits during pregnancy (cravings) is usually indicative of a dietary or nutritional deficiency.

Sometimes a desire to eat unusual objects can be symptomatic of severe mental illness, and merits psychiatric intervention.

Generally if it is not dangerous, eat it! But not excessively.

Interesting ? But some of us already know we need psychiatric intervention besides the occasional urge to eat pine wood !

Not me just saying

Once when I was backpacking in Cambodia, I was on a coach sat next to a very poor Cambodian woman who very kindly offered me one of her deep fried Crickets. Due to the language barrier, I didn't want to offend by saying no, so I took one and ate it. It wasn't a taste sensation.

Pickled crocodile in South Africa. Ostrich steak in my former local pub in Glasgow.

Chocolate covered ants.

And yes, the legendary deep-fried Mars Bar.

Was given horse in France on school exchange - became veggie for nearly 3 years after.
