50 Years Apart

On an episode of a show called Ponderland which pondered love, it showed a couple that were apart for over 50 years because the guy had gone to Australia but they loved each other so much that they kept in touch all that time and when he came back home, it showed them in the next clip on the day after, looking a bit disappointed and the lady said "perhaps I was hoping for more than I should have". In another clip, her partner gets into the taxi to go back to Australia.

It made me wonder, would you stay in touch with your partner if they had moved to another country and didn't come back until after 50 years later?

No I wouldn't. If I really wanted to be with someone and he with me we would have found a way to do it or given up.

I can barely keep in touch with people who haven't moved to another country let alone anyone who has. After 50 years I'd have difficulty recalling who they were.

Love will always find a way.

When I saw those clips on the show, I thought that couple could have had more if he hadn't had gone to Australia. They could have got married and had a family but they can't now.

Long distance relationships can work but spending that long apart is too much

I had something similar up until a few years ago. Except we both married different people (he is 8 years older). I still hadn't lost that feeling of love for him when he asked not to stay in touch around 22 years ago - I respected that. I got in with my life. 3 years ago said chap got back in touch and we kinda rekindled things. He messed me around somewhat and said he'd just wanted "fun, sex and laughter" I'd told him not with me he wasn't as feelings were in involved. We remained friends. However I've evolved again and I think he'd like a relationship with me now (it's no longer reciprocated). We are both different people and some of the daft things he says irritate me.

Like someone else has mentioned, I'd want to be with someone who definitely wants to be with me and shows it - there'd be a way we'd make it work. I now feel that having feelings for someone over 30 years and nothing come from it has now been a great waste..

I wouldn't do a long distance relationship.

A lot of trust would have to be put into it though for it to work.

I they "really" loved each other they would have sorted something out during the 50 years. I think sometimes people like to have an impossible dream, it beats reality.

Perhaps that's what that lady on the show felt after 50 years.

Trust come being open and honest at all times
