"You have to be in the right mental state to use them. I think people make the same mistake in thinking they see others "living their best lives" when in reality, its just the best photo they got out of the tens they took and then wrote something to make it sound better. Full dis. I use Instagram but for every 1 photo that goes on it there are 10ish that are for me only" Exactly , and I think a lot of people know it’s mostly fiction and constructed but still seeing something so curated makes you think like… WHY I CANT BE THERE OR HAVE THAT or whatever Then again, I’ve seen some of the people who have to document everything when they go on holiday specifically to post on social media. And it makes me sick lol There seems to be such pressure to display this “IM LIVING MY BEST LIFE” lifestyle

"Social media is a game and if you know how to play it it can become very lucrative " Of course, but it’s 100% a pretty cage, still a cage tho. Insta perfect, be flawless all the time and most importantly, don’t stop creating

"I'm just SO glad my daughters and I were able to get through our 'formative' years without it all. I work with young people and honestly, the amount of issues directly linked to sm is crazy. " Exactly because now it’s every girl or boy can create this huge following and seemingly perfect life. Ages ago we knew there were people like actresses and models living this sort of unreachable life. And it was different cos it wasn’t blasted on ur face like it is now. 24/7

"I'm not on Instagram. I use Twitter for sex related stuff and to chat to my current girl crush. Rarely use Facebook. I've seen too much of the behind the scenes nonsense that goes on on social media, especially with "Influencers". I don't want to look like an airbrushed, surgically altered version of myself so no, I don't find myself envious of them. I can see how people could be though and I don't blame them for that, there's such a pressure to be constantly on, constantly being your best self and living your best life. I guess to some degree Fab is like that - you've got to be talking about all the sexing, all the people you're meeting. Living through your orifices." Oh I kinda see what u mean, I don’t feel particular bad feelings from fab But I guess I feel the pressure of always having to present at my 100% when meeting guys (from here or wherever) and not be half assed (so to speak) but I don’t think it’s correlated to my fab profile. And it’s a problem that quite some trans girls go through I guess.

"How do you perceive social media? Im talking about the classic ones, Instagram in particular… I used to be on it all the time, checking out stories and what others used to do. And I have to say I personally found it quite unhealthy mentally. Id be on it, having massive FOMO (fear of missing out) or being jelly about what people were going on holiday, living the best life (and I know especially at the top, it’s very fabricated and put well together to have that effect) Also the beauty standards are so high, id always end up wondering why I don’t have those hips, or that frame or that hair or whatever … so now I’ve learnt not to check it as much (usually 5 mins every couple of days) and I do feel MUCH better for it.. What’s your thoughts? " Personally I feel like social media puts horrible meanings to normal words and destroys interactions between people as well as creating a egotistical society based on likes instead of actually interactions so when someone wants to talk to them they no longer know how and just ignore them creating isolation leading to depression and anxiety and possibly deaths I know if I spend a day on dating sites socials or on here the lack of people that talk to me really gets me down and is completely unhealthy to us as animals

Have you ever sat at a table with influencers? Haha they’d be like “just give me 10 mins I need to edit and post this picture and do some stories and then we can start eating” And you are there basically chewing on half a load of free bread while waiting for them to look at themselves

"We should turn off the Internet for 48 hours from time to time just to let folk know that there is a "real" world out there. Maybe that could help bring some balance back into their lives." Agreed! Or a week I think pandemic did sort it out a bit but I feel like it’s reverting to what it used to be… we never really learn

"Not possible anymore....... Everything is now FACELESS. Doctors Hospitals Shopping Internet Provision Local Council Wider Govt. Shops Schools........ The only way of reaching anything is via the net..... Leave a message and get ignored....... die on the floor ...... shovelled up and buried. " I am laughing at your comment in order to keep my own sanity but everything you have said is sadly true. I also find with work, I am being forced all the time to have social media platforms in order to “be part of things”, to learn/make progress. My boss is so lazy that all he does is send us constant twitter links (I don’t have Twitter). What a world!

"We should turn off the Internet for 48 hours from time to time just to let folk know that there is a "real" world out there. Maybe that could help bring some balance back into their lives." The internet is part of the 'real' world. I would think more recent generations see it as just another part of life rather than something seperate. It's just a communication medium. Yes some people will get addicted to it, some people on it will exasperate mental health problems. But does the internet create mental health problems or do people with existing problems struggle? Social media is a tool which allows anyone to use it in whatever way people want to. I would suspect most people on social media get on with it quietly and don't see a problem (much like Fab). But 'Person finds social media useful' is not such a good headline. And you couldn't just switch the internet off as it is too tightly ingrained in to our society and lives - I'd like to see how much would get wiped off the economy if that did happen.

If I want content I look for it on YouTube. I technically have Twitter and Instagram accounts but never post to them and rarely bother to look.

What’s your thoughts? " I agree totally, at first with FB when I first came out it was a good way to keep in touch, but then you soon realise why you don't keep in touch with those people. Overall I find it can be very bad for people mentally, it has change the way a lot of people live their lives, people tend to do thing just to put on social media or show off, just live for the moment and do t worry about putting pictures and selfies on everything. I also agree it has you doubting yourself too seeing all these fancy lifestyles and perfect families everywhere, especially when you know for a fact its totally false and they are in fact crying themselves to sleep every night. I do dislike the way we're are heading in all of this... Personally I have kept away from the big ones especially over the pandemic as it has done nothing for myself, sure some people love it but it's just not for me anymore.
