We were rationed.

I was given a 8” bit of 2x2 so I carved it a bit and declared it a model of a totem pole.

The very first thing i help make in Woodwork was the wooden mould for a Fiberglass canoe, We did eventually make the canoe from it as well in the second year.

For "O" Level i made an Appalachian dulcimer. It's a 4 stringed instrument and to be honest sounds horrible, i actually sold it to a music shop about 15 years ago for £1400 , never did tell them i made it at school When i left school i also made a Gibson Flying V copy out of Mahogany and beech, i could never afford the proper pickups for it though, so it was never used and has long gone to the tip now.

A side table…two bits of MDF that slotted together for the base, painted to look like MasterCard and a fifty pence for the top! That was about 34 years ago and my sister still uses it to stand her Christmas tree on, obviously hidden under a cloth!!!

A wooden bowl. We spent about a term hollowing it out a bit more each week. Then the teacher took one from a pupil to demonstrate that it needed to be a bit deeper. Put his chisel straight through the bottom.
