To absolutely nobody....

1) We don’t have to agree on things. For some reason we seem to live in a world where people think we should agree on everything.

If it wasn’t for differences in our tastes, opinions, values and perspectives we’d be a pretty dull race.

2) Being offended doesn’t mean you’re right.

“You found it offensive, I found it funny. That’s why I’m happier than you.” - Ricky Gervais

3) Sometimes it’s a good idea to realise some things aren’t aimed at you.

4) Often when you’re really triggered or upset about something it’s sometimes because it’s hit a personal truth you’ve been suppressing.

If something has triggered you BEYOND just disagreeing, perhaps something is underlying.

5) If you’re ever butt hurt from something, just think about the motive behind it.

Every offensive joke was intended to make people laugh, people often have the best intentions and disagreeing with people is what makes the world go around.

Hakunamatata, innit.

Oh....and please note that I tend to post shit that I find funny....if that shit offends you, I find that rather funny too!

Peace out, mother bitchessssssss

You have a good point, if it’s hurtful, offensive or abusive, I absolutely agree, but if you take those things out of the mix, actually what’s he said is right, and our triggers are our teachers.

If someone is hurt or offended by our jokes or remarks that should also trigger us to think about what we’ve said, no, even if we believe we intended no harm ? Not just dismiss their feelings as a lack of humour.

I do find on here a difference of opinion is labelled as an argument or the other person being 'offended' rather quickly. Just because I don't agree with you doesn't mean I'm arguing with you or that I am offended by you.

Also, people choose to be offensive. They know they're doing it. The onus of offense being given or taken isn't always on the recipient

Problem IS bants.........

A lot of people who agree with what you say only THINK they understand it.

They will STILL be offensive and claim that it's others who are offended.

I maintain that offense is taken and not given but there is an enormous chasm ....more an abyss between those that 'take offense' easily and those that are able to recognise the crass shite spouted by some who then attempt self defence in the name of 'free speech' .......

They are not mutually exclusive emotional states / behaviours

It's very possible to have IS OFFENSIVE but IS NOT OFFENDED.

I agree that the word 'wrong' is out of place in any balanced discussion.

I'm still on the side of a person being perfectly capable of controlling their emotions and simply NOT taking offense. Particularly as what constitutes offence in society is very malleable and can clearly be seen to change across decades....

I'll take offense if I feel it's worthy of a fight but not every two fucking minutes just because I can.

It dripped with sarcasm, GC

We all have different triggers based on our own experiences and personality, and often they are emotional triggers which are not easy to rationalise, and therefore not simply a choice imo.

Why are you assuming you offend people? I just rolled my eyes a lot last night. Not offensive but also not funny. "

Because people got offended last night when I mentioned two cocks rubbing together in the same hole was a little bi. There was another post I made a couple nights back that got someone's back up but I cant remember what it was now.

It might not be funny to everyone, but the people that do find it funny, are my kind of people! I'm not here to impress everyone or make everyone laugh. The ones who are impressed or do laugh are all that matter to me!

"No-one who quotes Ricky Gervais approvingly was intentionally funny. Ever.

Must admit, I'm not a fan of his but he does make a good point with that particular quote!

It’s curious how Gervais doesn’t give any indication of being a happy person, just every sign of being a miserable and bitter one.

Amongst other things.

No. That’s humour. Maybe different to some people’s but it’s humour. Afterlife was one of the funniest thing I’ve ever watched. I’m not a fan of the office but still see how it’s humour.

That’s all scripted, so it tells you effectively nothing about him as a person. His public pronouncements are very revealing, on the other hand."

I believe most programmes are scripted. Like I said before I’m not a great fan of him apart from in the afterlife. Love the quote though and agree with it.

If someone wants to say something they know is going to be offensive to people and still want to post it, thinking it’s funny, then to me, it says far more about that person.

It’s a great filtering tool…

Indeed. It’s mostly a sign people are desperate for attention, with no better idea of how to garner it.

"To absolutely nobody....

Peace out, mother bitchessssssss"

Free speech does not give anyone the right to cause harm with it. If offence has been taken from your words, you have the freedom to defend it just as much as the offended has a right to claim he has taken offence.

Simply placing the onus on those who have taken offence to defend and justify their reason for taking offence shows that you meant to offend because you put no thought into the matter whatsoever, even when it had been raised to your attention.

Either stand up and defend your rhetoric or apologise because you hadn’t been aware of the issue.

Or it can always be brushed off as just a joke because you’re only talking to likeminded people who understand you.

Erm… no lol. You’ve clearly not seen anything of his beyond the shows and a few bits here and there. Watch his streams online and you’ll see a very happy individual. There’s zero bitter about his character or attitude. He’s an excellent comedian and fantastic speaker on animal rights issues, religious debate etc. Bitter? Miserable? No way. Very much the opposite.
