sounds like a trip to the pharmacy may be required.

There was a hotel, in Edgebaston, where the rooms were a bit dodgy... decided not to stay there, so glad we didn't.

Mind you, the one we moved to turned out to have cameras in all the rooms... including the bathrooms

not sure which was worse!

They need to destroy the mattress and give you a partial refund.

Definitely right a letter of complaint to the hotel. As for the bites, try an Epsom salt bath and an antihistamine tablet to alleviate the itching.

Some friends caught scabies whilst staying in a hotel once. They complained & the hotel denied it, until the next guests in that room also caught it & complained. They got a full refund plus vouchers for a complimentary weekend stay, funnily enough they didn't really want to stay in the same hotel again, c.

From my hotel experience over 40 years, you should contact the Health Authority within the relevant Council where the hotel is located.

They can take urgent action, as bed bugs if not acted on and treated, can spread very easily. I knew of one hotel that was closed for 1 week to allow specialist contractors to deal with the fumigation. Furniture, beds and room fittings had to be destroyed and the building treated and sealed for 48 hrs to kill every insect & eggs.

It cost them over £30k, but Insurance covered that cost.

CCTV in bedrooms and even the bathrooms, highly illegal in the UK. Hotels can only have them in corridors.

OP, bed bugs can hitch a lift in your luggage too. Suggest you take action to quarantine your suitcase and stuff before bringing into the house. You can read online how to address bed bugs in bags etc. They like the zip area and the folds/creases of fabric.

Seriously OP, wonder where the saying came from?

I had a bad experience with insects in a hotel in Africa with no air conditioning,

It appears that international travel has a habit of carrying alsorts of problems, especially for hotels.

It didn't happen abroad but in the UK. Someone suggested I take a hayfever tablet for the itching and it worked!
