"Lot off the “ vaule” brands are the exact same as the expensive ones Use to work in a biscuit factory years ago Let’s just say marks and Spencer’s expensive biscuits are the exact same as co ops vaule brand only thing that changed on the line was the wrapper Still to this day get a kick out off it when I in mark and Spencer’s and see them for like £1.99 And like 69p in the co op ha ha " My uncle used to work in a yoghurt factory and said the only difference between the fancier supermarkets and the cheaper ones is that the luxury ones knock a couple of days off the use by date so their customers don't get watery (but perfectly edible with a good mix) yoghurts. So wasteful.

"I haven't shopped in a supermarket for a very long time. I get everything local from independents and bits i cant get i order online. If i get branded i tend to stick to branded like for toothpaste and that sort of thing. It works out cheaper for me. The temptations of buying crap i dont need isnt there, and no longer buy 'convenience' freezer food ect which is of hellish false economy

If i get branded i tend to stick to branded like for toothpaste and that sort of thing. I have to admit to sometimes buying loads of crap but it's not for me. I'm not a big fan of the freezer, things tend to go in and not come back out.

"Only thing I buy as a brand name food wise is Heinz products...they just have that little bit extra about them to alternate brands" This is me with beans. I've been buying a supermarket own brand but it just wasn't the same. My granddaughter loves so I've gone back to heinz.

"Lidl and Aldi have made a big difference, for things I like I always try their brands and compare to name ones. Some things there's no different like rice, pasta, etc but tea and coffee aren't as good, to my taste." I can always tell good rice. I'm quite fussy with rice.

"Generally not for cooking as I make everything from scratch so there are not choices, but exceptions are olive oil, tomato purée, pesto , rice, olives and coffee as the brands I want are tasty and generally not in major supermarkets . The only difference with pasta is the brands do more choices like linguine and tagliatelle, so for white penne I get cheap kilo bags from Asda but for whole meal I get Sainsbury’s organic. Other stuff branded washing powder for whites because of course it makes whites whiter I know that you are a foodie! So interesting that you buy cheap pasta. I'm regretting paying extra for the spaghetti now

"Depends what it is. I was always a Heinz person but prefer Tesco’s ketchup and beans now. Cereal has to be Kellogg’s, own brands are nowhere near. Mayo has to be Hellman’s. I’ll try stuff but if I don’t prefer it I’ll stick to branded. " I do the same and I'd rather pay less. You just can't always get away with it.
