Anybody else planning a staycation this summer? I am, but have not yet decided where exactly. Maybe I'll just stay in London

It is not a 'staycation' if you are going somewhere other than your own house, then it's just a holiday. Thank you for your time.

Exactly. I thought everybody knew this - well until the Media and holiday companies hijacked the term last year

Actually I googled this before posting it and the definition includes both staying at home (with day trips etc) as well as holidaying in your own country

I knew what you meant OP

Yes I’ll be staycationing in Scotland. I’m doing the NC500 in 2 weeks.

Driving or cycling? If cycling, kudos!

You'll love it! Best driving roads and scenery in the world. Just be prepared for a long wait on the single-track parts if you're unlucky enough to meet a camper van convoy

You're going to do the Bealach na Ba hairpins of course. Haven't done the drive if you don't do those.

Also, take your time and have a look around when you're at Durness and Loch Eriboll. Just driving through some parts of the NC500 is a shocking waste.

Just got back from Whitby a week ago. The weather was amazing so was the apartment. Love the Yorkshire coast.

And booked a place in the peaks for new year.

But I’ve booked St Lucius for November. I can be hopeful

Make it a priority! I've driven all of it, not in one go but on several visits, and there is no more beautiful drive in the entire world.

Passed Beyond Reach

Staycation is just a media contrived nonsense word. Primarily to describe people having to holiday in the UK rather than jet2 flight to all inclusive piss-up brit holidays in Spain etc.

I have travelled the world but we spend our time touring and exploring our beautiful homeland - this is no shape or form a staycation oh and trying to enjoy it before the jet2 brigade destroy it. Roll on cheap all inclusive holidays to benidorm return soon

Actually it goes back a lot further than that. It's been used in the states for years and literally means vacationing at home. Hence STATcation. Because you STAY at home.

I must have first heard it around 20 years ago

Had a few days in a pod in Dumfries and Galloway with the family. Kayaking paddle boarding and climbing at loch ken activities centre.

Great fun as always...
