The bits we don't love

In a ball gown because that's how we roll in N. Devon

So after Kylie's weight thread earlier, and Saff's "how are we all a bit bat shit" one that's currently still open.... I figured that this thread should make a comeback.

We all have bits we don't love about ourselves. All of us. Size 0, Size 36, XS, 5XL and everything in between. It's rare to find a lucky person who loves all of themselves equally.

For me it's mainly my belly. That's been an issue for me at a size 32 and a size 10. I'm mostly ok with it when I'm wearing clothes these days but getting naked is still an issue. I have one mirror in my house that's bigger than a pocket size, and that's above the bathroom sink. I rarely look in it.

But my body has got me through over 42 years of my life. It's broken. It's been pulled apart and stitched back together and it has destroyed me by not being able to grow children. But it's mine. I own it.

There are people who find it revolting. But I'm doing my damn best not to listen to them any more. There are people who find it sexy. There are men who have caressed it, who have kissed it all over and made me feel beautiful because they think I am. They're the ones I listen to now.

And there are women. Beautiful, wonderful women who see what I see. They see what the parts I believe are flawed are and they know how I feel about them. And they tell me I shouldn't worry, despite them knowing that's never going to happen.

We all look at the "flaws" in ourselves with a far more critical eye than we ever would look at others. I could have a twin, a clone of me, looking exactly as I do and I'd tell her she was beautiful. I'm sure so many of you feel the same. We need to be kinder to ourselves as much as we do to others.

So here I am. This is me. This is all of me, the good and the bad. I'm putting this picture up, as I have a slightly less revealing one before, in the hope that it'll help me to love me a bit more. I'm also doing it in the hope that others will look at my body and feel better about theirs.

And yes. This is totally a "look at me" post. But I'm hoping others may use it as a "look at me too" post and find their inner strength to show of the bits they don't love too.

Hate my bloody stomach too. To be honest, some days I hate my whole damn body - even my boobs.

I just wish I still had the "perfect" size 12 curvy body I had at 30 - before all my health issues. But, you know life.

Meh. If I can't get naked in front of people who I don't know and am never gonna meet, who can I get naked in front of?

Hang on.... that's kinda arse about face

If someone wants to meet me and I them, then they'll see it anyway. If they don't, then it doesn't matter what they think.

(Please note, confidence online is SO different to in real life. Plus this'll go back in it's box when I stop being cranky about weight shamers)

Brave lady, I love this.

I hate my wobbly belly, my dodgy knees, but I can hide it quite well in pics

On meets I generally wear sexy undies, rarely get undressed

Spending the last 3 months on crutches has not helped, but I'm determined to get fitter for me

I'm 2 stone heavier than I have been most of my adult life

Medication plays a huge part in that, but if it keeps me well I'll take the extra pounds

You look great lovely

As I just said to Nora....

It's not real life confidence. And it's mainly pissed off with weight shamers and pushing back rather than confidence.

You’re very beautiful Posh and you have a really sexy body that you should be proud of but I know it’s not easy for anyone to like their body whether it’s flawless or not. There are lots of things about my body I don’t like, over weight, overly hairy, small penis to name a few but I know I’m a good person and that’s all that matters to me and is all that matters when I look at other people, having a kind and honest nature makes someone infinitely more attractive than just having a flawless body.

There'll be one publically viewable til morning

I'm a good 3 stones lighter than that now, but I still carry that weight in my head

I learned some time ago not to be ashamed

If I own it, others won't see the issue

If I shy away from it, they look for the same issues as me

Beautiful post OP. Bless us all and our vulnerabilities.. And f*ck the culture and money makers who planted the seeds of doubt in us in the first place.

It has always seemed truly insane to me that so many of us walk the earth in shame and loathing of our natural selves.

My lower tummy, my ageing, breast feeding ravaged boobs, my chins, my new squooshy feel. Oh well.

You, I, we.. are all still worthy of much much pleasure and so so much love, regardless of our shell.

What an awesome post. I’ve never been especially happy with my torso. I’m proud of my legs and to a lesser extent my arms but I’ve never loved my torso. I’ve always given myself a hard time about the extra timber carried around the middle. It’s time to let that go.

Everyone is amazing. Everyone’s body is amazing. Those who have had babies, those who haven’t or can’t. Those with injuries or imperfections. Everything tells a story and there’s always a new chapter being written.

You look good NSP, but I’m with you on the whole body confidence. I’ve put a lot of weight back on over the past 2 years, my hernia makes me look like I’ve stuck a football in my stomach, and I’ve got big saggy boobs that don’t look good.

I’m dealing with my youngest who’s got MH problems and verbally abuses me , that takes me right back to feeling like I’ve swapped one narcissist for another. But my surgeon was very helpful and has given me some hope for the near future. I will get back to the weight I want. X

But it's still nice when you've only ever been complimented on your personality, or your eyes, or mouth, or boobs, to be able to look at the rest and say "actually, it's ok".

Thank you"

This!!

To be with someone who tells me he loves my body - and means it is the best drug ever x

"Beautiful post OP.

Xxx "

Yes! This is exactly my point. We might not like the bits.... but they make us ourself. And we are worthy.

You're such a beautiful soul in a stunning body. I am so glad you're here xxx

"What an awesome post.

I hope you can let that go. It's not easy. But this is such a positive post.

And thank you. So much xx

Mine is probably the same. I've had stomach surgery so the tone will never be as good as it could be. Also due to endometriosis I get bloating. I have good days and bad days. Sometimes my stomach can be fairly flat, others I can look like I'm 4-5 months pregnant.

I don't think there's any part of me I'm totally happy with but it is what it is and we'd just make ourselves miserable if we dwelled on it too much. I think it's important to remember that other people while beautiful, aren't "perfect" either and we often hold ourselves to far more unrealistic standards than we do others.

Well done NSP... wish you could see what I think the rest of us do though, you look stunning and given the chance a body that only deserves kisses all over.

It saddens me how very few of you ladies see how beautiful you are and unlike the fakes and the wanna be's, you all have personalities to match the world is a cruel place that would make any of you feel undesirable and even harder though is the self inflicted and unnecessary negativity, each of you with bodies i could caress for hours.

But in turn I understand the anguish

I've lost a stone in the last year and not deliberately but still got a round middle that I detest and then bordering on skinny beyond... I think we all need find compromise and appreciation and self worth. I just know it's so much easier said then done, I can see the beauty in others yet disparaging of myself... I just wish you could see yours and be proud, all of you. X

"Such an inspiring thread NSP, amazing! I always hide the bit of my body I dislike (my lower tummy), you'll almost never see it in my photos but maybe I should be more brave like you xxx"

Kitty, you are beautiful. Body and soul. But I know you have hang ups as well.

And that makes me sad. Not just for you, because you should be so proud of your whole self.

But also for other women, women who are a similar size and shape to you. People don't understand, or they forget that women we see as having "perfect" bodies, women who we see as being wanted by everyone, have often got parts they dislike, hate, wish were different.

And that means that there are so many women (and men, because men with perceived perfect bodies feel it too) who feel they can't step up and say they don't like a part of them, in case they get shouted down.

One day Kitty, I hope to see you happy to photograph all of you. And if and when you do, I'll be smiling

In an ideal world that's exactly what we would do. We would all care more for the inside than the wrapper. And actually, most other people do. They judge us on who we are and not what we look like.

But I know, for me, that being told I'm a lovely person, while wonderful, doesn't give me the same thrill as someone I'm attracted to telling me I'm sexy as fuck.

Ironically I'd then just think they were trying to butter me up.

Humans are complicated

I really dislike my body at the moment. I feel incredibly lucky that I have been able to grow a baby after being told for 15 years that wouldn’t be a possibility but I hate my pregnant body. I still have the fat and loose belly from before but then with a bump stuck on the front of it. I’m in pain all the time, which means I’m not sleeping so it’s affecting the rest of me too. I’ve managed to escape pregnancy with no weight gain but I feel so huge.

I think your photo is fantastic and if I had your body I would be happy to show it off too.

Honestly NSP this bought tears to my eyes for so many reasons. You’re so brave to talk like this. I myself have been everything from a 10-22 and I hate my belly and pretty much well most of me. I have scars, lumps, bumps, wobbly bits but my body has carried me through depression, physical health issues, cancer scares, loosing a child, surgeries and all sorts. So I felt every bit of emotion you put into that post. You’re a gorgeous woman and you post some amazing pics I wish I had the balls to do the same!

I suppose that there's a couple of obvious parts of my body that I'm not very happy about, things that just don't feel like they ought to be that way. I guess that I do try to just make the best of what I am though, I can sort of cope with my feelings, and at present I doubt that I'll be taking any irreversible steps. Looking good* and getting out places once in a while helps me get by.

Reading

Just read this thread. As a male . From my prospective. Since teenager have been described as ‘ seven stone weakling ‘ etc. Yet due to sport which played for town and county . Was very fit. Just not muscular etc as most males. Yet never bothered about body shape etc. If on holiday and at late night someone suggested skinny dipping . Would be one of first to strip . Also not well endowed when soft ? But never had complaint about size from any female. Unless they were being polite ?

KIDLINGTON

Just see this thread. Firstly NSP I love that body and like many other men have said would live to explore it further. Well done on the thread and putting yourself out there.

Secondly, I have such a love hate relationship with my body and myself in general. Someday I can not care about a thing walk in to a room mingle flutter my eyes and be like a social butterfly. Some formites will have witnessed this at social events. Other days I can walk into a room think everyone is staring at me, thinking I'm huge and wish the floor would swallow me up. Some forumites have also witnessed this in clubs etc.

I've been bullied in the past for my size, which has really affected my vision of myself. Its my tummy I really hate which seems similar to others on here.

So to stand in unity with you and many other I'm putting a picture I don't like up on my profile pic for a few hours.

Thank you for this thread, thank you for the encouragement to get out of my comfort zone for a bit.

I'm in.... Or should that be out?!

Our bodies are amazing what ever size or shape they are. They keep us alive, they get us to where we want to be. Some may not work as well as others, some may have lasting signs of damage from out experiences either mentally or physically. But they are our bodies.

In order for those who want to change their relationship with their bodies we need to accept them as they are. Quite literally stand in front of a mirror and say 'thank you body. For being here. I see you. I feel you. I accept you. I love you. I will nurture, nourish and appreciate you.' make it your daily mantra. Zone in on specific areas of you want.

You don't look after something you don't like, be it s in the garden or an old knackered car etc. Why do we feel hating our bodies will lead us to change it for the better.

I love my body and so want to look after it. I am starting to feed it better, listen to what it wants (even if that is a burger from time to time), making it stronger.

Love your bodies people. I love all of yours x

As we are on the same boat I also feel the same, and I mean there’s something that definitely shouldn’t be there (that I’m hoping to correct soon) and the rest is in constant rotation of what I pick and HATE …it changes every day/week

either it’s TOO BIG (like my shoulders, and my arms and my waist, and my feet ) or TOO SMALL (my boobies, my bum etc) and It always puts me in front of the reality that I’m not a cis woman.

Obviously I’m trying to deal with it as best as I can x

First, yay! It's amazing how much it makes the world of difference when someone wants to touch us and make us feel like goddesses isn't it?! I'm so happy for you xx

I hope that feeling stays with you and you can grow to really see the beauty of all of you. Because it is there. Your body is amazing and as you say, it has carried you through all of this.

It takes time. It does. I'm not there yet and I have a lot of issues still, as I've said. But I'm finally getting there. And although the people I have mentioned help in all kinds of ways, I also know that's not a guarantee. I can't rely on them to always make me feel good. It is too much pressure for them and that's not fair.

Not only that, I do know that whether or not they continue to be in my life and make me feel this way, I need to make me feel this way myself. It has to come from me. Or the feeling will not only leave if they do, I will fo back to hating my body again. And that isn't fair to them or me.

You rock xx

Polly, thank you for sharing. I have no way of fully understanding your feelings, obviously. And I wish it weren't as it is. Being able to live with those feelings makes you so very strong.

I was concerned when I wrote the post that anyone feeling in the wrong body would not appreciate my words, I can see how they could be hurtful, and I apologise if that is the case to you and anyone else.

I hope you do glory in the parts of your body that aren't the wrong ones. I hope that despite those you can find some way to love you. I see so much love for you on here and I really hope you get that live and support in the real world as well.

You're a warrior queen. And you, in so many more ways than many, are so much more than the sum of your parts

And I can relate to what you say about being half social butterfly and half wanting to sink into the ground. When everyone around you is smaller and more petite, or buffer and you feel they're better proportioned it can be so difficult. Those younger selves of ours start screaming all the obscenities that others have in the past.

On those days, try and find the volume knob. Turn the bullies down and don't join them. And turn up the voice of that social butterfly. You have a fantastic body. Rock it xx

Girls made me feel ugly when I was young. Whether I'm ugly or not is irrelevant (I'm not) but being pushed aside and made to feel like your less than your friends is hard. It gets in your head and stays there.

I did blossom and have had many women fancy me, had good, long relationships, despite being a big and tall bloke. The problem is my default setting is that women won't like me. That doesn't hold me back however. I'm smart enough to believe people when they tell me there's nowt wrong with me. What I lack in confidence I make up in courage. What I lack in looks I make up for in character.

That's a wonderful post, and exactly what I hope others will be encouraged to find in themselves.

I don't think it's about being smart though, I think it's about finding the courage to allow people who say good things to shout down the echoes of the ones who have said bad things.

And the courage to know that doing so, having confidence in yourself, is not the bad thing we are always told it is.

Carlsberg don't do body positivity threads in the forums of Swingers websites, but if they did ...they'd still not be as good as this one!

Posh, you're a diamond for kicking this off and everyone for baring themselves, written or otherwise.

I used to have so many of the hangups about my body that I've been reading above, and some of it, when I'm in the wrong frame of mind, still irks me (bit's being too big, bits being too small, surgery scars that stand out). But accepting I'll never be the perfect version of me I could never be, I'm happy to keep trying, but so long as I stay healthy, the rest of it is just trivial.

"Carlsberg don't do body positivity threads in the forums of Swingers websites, but if they did ...they'd still not be as good as this one!

Thank you Dai. It's been a really hopeful and positive experience once again. For me and I hope for others.

You have that balance between self love and acceptance that many people strive for, it seems, and as long as you stay out of the wrong frame as much as possible, you'll continue to rock it!

You do make me smile x

“To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment.”

"I have a body. It works, mostly.

It could do with some improvement; a good few inches longer would be nice, more muscles would be welcome, dreamier eyes would be lovely, an improvement around the facial region would certainly be desirable…..

I think I’m happy with my brain so yayyyy!!!

You can't improve on your body. No one can. You can only change it. You always seem quite settled with yours lovely man.

And I adore your brain xx

Thank you, you lovely lady. I’m settled because I’m far too lazy to change it and I’m not going to wear platforms!!

My brain has got me here and I’m not going to trouble it with extra work to dwell on something others may not find appealing.

You have a very fine brain Posh. That’s why you started this thread. Now trouble it no longer.

If only I could turn it off sometimes I'd be far more content x

Be contented and the brain will switch off.

Unfortunately, our brain conspires against us and seems to be geared towards seeking approval rather than contentment…..or is that the heart’s fault?

I'd say both. Mostly brain. The heart looks for love.

….but is the seeking of love what drives the brain to seek the approval we think we need in order to be contented?

I believe you're right. The two do tend towards hand in hand.

Usually in my case, hand in hand to skip merrily over the edge of a cliff...."

We are all lemmings to our heart!!

I just want to say thank you to all who have joined this thread, and thank you for being so open and honest. I really do hope that those of you who have found a way to love your bodies can find it in you to help others love theirs a little every day, as so many have done here.

And I hope that in a small way we have helped people already with this.

You all rock. You're awesome.

And those who have sent gorgeous messages, thank you for your support. To those who think it's alright to abuse others in public or private, I hope you come to realise that it's cruel and can have lasting effects. And I hope you have a rethink for the future.

Love yourselves people.

Make your partners feel like goddesses and heroes. And do the same for a stranger now and then

Gapping Fanny

Theres only 1 part of my body that I am disappointed in. I still love it, but my cavalier attitude to my health and perceptions of invulnerability when younger have contributed to it no longer functioning in a way I find acceptable.

However, while I am looking into what I can do to help with it, it doesn’t define me but it is something I have to consider when talking to people about prospective meets to avoid any potential issues.
