Bizarrely it's probably not based on his football prowess but "him" as a business opportunity, marketing etc.... stopped being about football the day the Premier League was formed. Something definitely needed to change but what we've got was not the answer.

With grealish the 100m is def for his football ability. City want to vacuum up all the talent to stop it competing against them. They bench them and ruin careers. Been doing it for 10 years. They have a deep squad right now and grealish wouldnt get the game time when foden and sterling are up against him

Pah! Only £100 million for a footballer? Recently members of the cabinet paid a hundred times as much to their best mates for shit loads of useless stuff, and didn't get even a single footballer thrown in with the deal.

Think it was Ronaldo but when he joined some Spanish team they made back his first years wages in selling shirts with his name on the first week of him signing so yes I do, that's why those clubs do it

I know very little about football.

But I had a relative who played for a first division football team.

I have his contract from around the 2nd world war era and it states ‘salary; dependant on war effort’.

How times have changed……

So your model is the business man goes and buys all the best products available in the market with no checks or balances in place? Monopolies are usually bad for the consumer in the long run and suffocate the market leading to lots of collateral damage in the product market place.

The OP was a question as to whether paying £100m for a pretty mundane product was ridiculous?

This is football played by Joeppe as in buy all current talent and have a boundless pool to choose from. It’s something my 100 year old granny could do with relative ease.

When Joseppe does the business at Burnley or Sheffield United then he will truly be considered a great and join the pantheon of football.

To be fair Man U are doing a similar thing with Lingard. They have no intention of playing him. Look at the players they have brought and yet have priced him out of moving on.

Football is dead, 100 million for a player that could only get to a final and not win. On a team whose tactics were "we have to be ruthless and device and fall over looking for penalties everytime someone touches us", only to come up against the masters of that tactic and fall way way way short.

Dunno how anyone watches anymore.

How can you sit watching with a kid being like "look, he's a genius he's pretending to be injured to win the game for us, I'm so so happy"

It's kinda patethic life message.

True. But there are plenty of positives to take out of it too if you care to look. Work hard and good things happen. (ronaldo).. Use your popularity to do amazing things for others... (rashford).. The acting on the green stuff is only a small part of the story.

The acting on the green stuff has more effect on impressionable minds than charitable or philanthropic work.

The pantheon of football managers has to be

1) Sir Alex Ferguson

2) sir Matt Busby

3) Bill Shankly

4) Bob Paisley

5) Jock Stein

6) Brian Clough

7) Sir Alf Ramsey

8) Arsen Wenger

9) Ron Greenwood

10) Don Revie

Surely?

Well JG won’t be thinking that on nearly £20m a year for the next 6 years!

Seems a little over kill for someone who is not first choice for the National side and has no track record for consistent performances. I can see 1p on a litre of petrol to pay for this nonsense!

Great signing. One of the most naturally talented players in England...I think all other clubs are jealous of Citys owners and I find it kinda racist when people use the term "dirty oil money"...the american owners aren't referred to as dirty or Abramovicg. It's about time people realise that's these men are serious and arguably the most professional owners on world football.

Interesting you said men.

Ciddys owners support oppression and infringements of human rights. As part of the wider UAE they restrict the rights of women and still see homosexuality as a crime. Having worked in the place I would not use the word professional.
