Overcoming social anxieties

Whoelse used to have social anxieties and managed to overcome them?

I think when it came to meeting new people at a club, I would be afraid that nobody would like me and that if I tried to join in a conversation, they would tell me to go away. I'm sure I'm not the only one who used to feel like this.

Over the past four years, I've realised that everyone is always friendly and willing to talk to you. It may have been scary making the first move but it helped me gain new friends and overcome my anxieties.

I suffer from social anxiety! I’m introverted and I’m not entirely in my element in groups. But I fought the anxiety and went to a club by myself last week and it was fine! I get dry mouth though when I’m anxious so made sure to drink plenty.

I'm very much an introvert in my spare time, have been for many years, but over recent year or two, I've pretty much come out of my shell. My job, which requires alot of social and interpersonal qualities has helped me overcome and sort of anxiety with talking to strangers.

It can feel overwhelming, but they are just people, people with their own anxietys, worries, and insecurities of their own, probably.

Just go for it, I pretty much feel like that every time I go on a social, but I must come across ok!

I'm incredibly shy and anxious, and constantly afraid of being a nuisance. It's such a difficult thing to get past.

I'm an introvert, this doesn't mean I can't talk to others or enjoy meeting new people, but it does exhaust me somewhat and I need my own space the day after. Sometimes I even escape parties for 20 minutes to just be alone, re energise, and then go back for more.

There was one time where I nearly left an event early at a club but a friend saw me about to leave and noticed I was upset so she came into the changing room, calmed me down and gave me a comforting hug. I ended up staying and enjoyed the rest of the evening.

Personally I use a human shield which is normally my wife to overcome my social anxiety but the other day I was in the big city with my youngest and we came across a record shop/bar but I bottled going in because I didn’t know the lay out of the place!!

Best advice I got was to not worry about being interesting, just be interested. Listen and show an interest.

I had had anxiety problems for a while, but thankfully I've got my mojo back and I'm back to my old ways of literally talking to anyone in a bar or club. I've had some fun nights recently after going for "one pint"

I’m an introvert and having the confidence to approach people even in a club is sometimes a challenging experience

I do have Asperger's Syndrome which is a mild form of autism.

Plenty of fun, interesting, bigger girls out there. Weight would never stop me chatting to someone x

I'm always nervous. Because I care! .

Giggles and my general chaotic behaviour mask it well.

That’s amazing. Would love to hear more of this story. X
