Chelmsford

I saw an extraordinary site today at a local convenience store in a local village. There were four men speaking fluent Dutch and all wearing wooden clogs. I don't know why they were there but my question is whether people in parts of the UK still wear wooden clogs. Perhaps up north somewhere in the old industrial towns ..

Didn't you answer your own question?

Yes northerners wear clogs as they love the clippy clappy sound they make on the cobbles whilst walking their whippets....

I'm calling bullshit. I have lived in Holland and didn't once see anyone wearing clogs unless they were dressed up for something.

Clogs are still worn in operating theares. Not like the traditional fully wooden ones though. They have like a wook/cork sole and the upper part is leather. With advancements in anti static materials though you now get a lot more that are similar to crocs.

La la land

Clog dancing is still a thing in the Eisteddfod's in Wales. Snuffing out candles as you jump over them is a talent

When I was at University in the 80s I always knew when New Model Army were playing, the hard core fans all wore clogs.

British clogs tended to be wooden soles with leather uppers and, when i danced North West Morris, used to wear clogs for that.

It's surprising how comfortable they are and hard wearing.

The paintings by LS Lowry of the industrial north of England depict many people wearing clogs.

Excellent video.

Why are English people so quick to take the piss out of their own traditions and heritage?
