So the German women's gymnastics ditch the leotards. Is the real reason so no camel tows are shown?

Metro says in protest against sexualisatio of gymnastics.

Some used to be cut very high on the arse, and they’d be constantly readjusting them.

The unitards look good and comfy, I think.

They're just wearing a very form fitting unitard. Those wishing to ogle can still see every contour and undulation, don't worry. Heaven forbid that women's sports should simply be enjoyed for the skill, ability, strength etc?!

I may have made this up but wasn't there a dress code in ladies beach volleyball that their bikini bottoms couldn't have a gusset over a certain tiny width?

The sides of the bikini bottom and the arch over the bumcheek are regulated, as is the size of the sports bra permitted. Men can play in knee length shorts and a vest top. Ditto in beach handball.

I absolutely agree with this but can't help but wonder if women don't also do a bit of ogling of male athletes? Comments about Linford Christie and Tom Daley spring to mind ...

I seem to remember , that a female commentator , referred to Linford Christie when he was running about seeing his lunch box. . This made headlines on national papers etc. I think she did not realise she was on air at the time. ?

I'm sure women do ogle too, but I'm not aware of any sport that specifically requires men to wear a garment so small/radically different to women, just to get more people watching. Which is exactly what the beach handball federation agrees it did when it started mandating tiny bikini bottoms and bras for women - "to maximise the return on sponsor investment." Male sprinters could wear looser shorts if they wished (within the "rules" - see what long distance runners wear, same rules). We're taking about the revealing garments for women being mandatory but the same sport for men permits looser, longer, much less revealing clothing. So it's clearly all about the way the female competitors look, rather than because the sport requires it.

Thank you, thought I'd imagined it or maybe dreamt it!
