Creaming Jesus. Guilt by Association is still one of my favourite albums. Stray Toasters will always, always raise a smile and remind me of being 18 again.

https://youtu.be/eDu9O-3w0lM

The Clarks. Very generic American pop/rock but they remind me of going to see local bands at state fairs in the summer and getting buzzed on cheap beer; that sort of feel-good summer music.

https://youtu.be/u8A6soFpK1c

Dave's True Story. I absolutely love the lead singer's voice, and it's the sort of music that should be played in some smoky dive bar somewhere. I quite like some of the overtly lesbian love songs too, Nadine being my favourite.

Doll By Doll. "Remember" is one of the weirdest, hardest albums ever (they went all Celtic soft rock after it and were never as good).

I'm not sure if Television qualify as they were critically acclaimed as massively influential, but I still have massive trouble persuading anybody who doesn't know.

Liaisons Dangereuses I really only know from one track, Dancibar, that came on a free NME cassette in the early 80s, but that song is anarchy personified.

Shaftesbury, Dorset

Polyphonic Spree. They were known for maybe one or two hits that got overused in tv shows a while back especially on Scrubs but other than that they tend to fly under the radar. It’s just such happy music

Oxygen was one of those songs I just randomly remembered when you said JJ72.

They are successful but bands like The Band, The Music, Love, Jim Sullivan are acts that I remember hearing of late in the day and not being massively well known. Or a few Indie bands definitely who were on the outskirts of commercial success

Look out their YouTube clip of Hocus Pocus on The Midnight Special ca. 1973/4 if you haven't seen it. About three times as fast as the record and Jan Akkerman gives a tutorial on blisteringly fast, precise shredding for the ages. As somebody commented, they had better drugs back then

There and to the left a bit

Not sure that some of those named would qualify as either weird or no-one liked - more "obscure", but has been a good read...to add a couple more:

Abdoujaparov (Les Carter from Carter USMs band)

The Simmertones - ska band from the SW

The Redskins - soulful punk with a social conscience

Pontypridd-ish

Corrosion of Conformity.

Saw them open for Metallica back in 96. This was the tour where the set explodes 3/4 of the way through, people falling off roof rigging, man on fire running across the stage. Was standing at the front and the blast from the pyro was insane!

Don't think anyone walked out of there talking about C. O. C though.

Missin’ Yo’ Kissin’

Cheetah - Aussie rock group. Lead singers were English sisters Chrissie and Lyndsay Hammond.

A bit hard to describe.... Heart meets AC/DC but in blues style?

They both had fantastic voices with lots of melody. "Scars Of Love" & "Spend The Night" (my favourite.)

They got to no.10 in the Aussie charts with "Walking In The Rain" (Carpenters meets Abba???-YUCK!!!)

One of the best live bands I’ve ever seen. Not exactly weird though, IMO.

Weird bands:

Sun Ra Arkestra
