Do you like home made gifts?

What do you like?. What do you dislike? What do you do if you receive a display gift and hate it? Chutney is easy to get rid of. Do you make gifts for people? What do you make?

I'm thinking of making things for a couple of birthdays and I need ideas.

I like baking so will make honeycomb chocolate or cupcakes give as gifts, I used to make those for my sons teachers when they were at School.

White chocolate and raspberry cupcakes with rasperry buttercream always goes down well. Though I prefer to use fresh cream as it offsets the sweetness

I have made chutney in the past

I don’t make anything because I’m the least creative person on the planet I do like homemade gifts though.

I have received jewellery, candles, jams, chutney, bath salt, scarves, so many things over the years. All given with love and thought and gratefully received

Depends what they are really. Anything with lots of thought gone in is always appreciated, especially if made by a child, but some gifts go straight into my memories box, as I don't want to lose them, but nor do I want to display them!

My

Most cherished gifts are handmade and I love making things especially cards, we live in such a throwaway society, and also people get so much that homemade is so thoughtful, touching and meaningful..

My sister whittles. She does it all the time and leaves piles of shavings everywhere lol

She won't be happy until she cuts a finger off I'm sure. She's already had temporary nerve damage as she stabbed herself in the palm

Secret hideaway in the pennines

Last Christmas I made brownies and Bailey's fudge as Christmas presents.

I have a friend who makes jams and does a cream tea gift set with jam, clotted cream and homemade scones, most yummy

Year before last I had a massive homemade gift giving. Homemade jams, pickled onions, chutneys, knitted socks, hats and gloves.

Cost twice as much and the time making was hours and hours. But genuinly loved by all who recived.

For a foodie I've made profiteroles and do a good baileys cheesecake

And beyond that, but depends for whom, I can put my hand to wood carving and turning and have made some pretty impressive HP wands amongst other bits and can also use a scroll saw and have made names for bedroom doors and the like...

I occasionally get arty and have done a few 3d papercraft projects but normally I rarely have the time to do any of the above.

I do think it's all to do with time and patience, getting a feel for what you're working with and being good with your hands

I’m very crafty and love to make unique gifts rather than buy from a shop! The last thing I made was a crochet baby yoda! Miss PC

I make my cupcake bouquets.

Love all the little things my nieces and nephews make me, they may be gaudy and hideous to some but to me they are priceless x

We were given handmade crochet bride & groom highland cows as a wedding gift. We absolutely love them!! The time & effort that must have gone into them really meant a lot to us xx

I like homemade gifts, as there is more thought, time and effort gone into the gift. As opposed to looking on amazon to buy something.

I've made all sorts in the past - soaps, ceramics, calendars, keyrings, sketches, peppermint creams, limoncello, 4-course gourmet dinner (parcelled up and left on a doorstep)...

I can make arty things.

Dioramas or wall mounted displays.

3D print the main subject then realistically paint them up. Make a frame, add any electronics or other features and done.

My most recent was the knockers from Labyrinth.

I make all kinds of things and give them as gifts, it’s a super feeling to know they’re appreciated and well received. Last year each of my family got a handmade patchwork quilt for Christmas

I love handmade or homemade gifts, because they're personal and unique.

I made gifts for my mum, gran and son for last Xmas.

I'm so glad I posted this question. I've gone on line and a lot of people seemed to not like home made gifts. Saying they were cheap!. Which kind of put me off. But you lot have re-inspired me. So thanks.

Reading about all the thoughtful things you make is lovely too.
