Not in the traditional sense but yes.

Work for myself and I'm permanently at the end of the phone for some of my clients, if they call me I get paid.

Don't get called often but it's a nice earner.

Scunthorpe

I used to in a previous job.

It was an emergency service and the number of times I got a call at 2am for advice, was bloody annoying

No. I've been doing extra work (unpaid) most the evening if that makes you feel any better?

Just retired to the sofa and don't plan to move for a few hours.

Yes - I have to do 1 week in every 3. I basically start work at 9am Monday and don't get to 'turn off till Monday the following week at 5pm.

I am the first point of call for any IT issues for the whole company - it is supposed to be for emergencies but people's idea of an emergency varies wildly!!! I also have to do my normal working hours even if I get called in the middle of the night. No drinking as I may have to drive and am officially under the drink/drugs policy and going out isn't worth it as I can almost guarantee I will get a call in the middle of a film or meal.

It sucks ass big time but part of the job I do and enjoy.

Yep, I conver 1 weekend a month for one of my clients. Sometimes the whole weekend goes without any calls, last weekend though it was 20 mins after dropping off Sat evening and didn't get home till 4am.

Used to be on call if a batch system that ran overnight fell over. At least once a week and could be anytime for all sorts of reasons. Thankfully, not with that company anymore.

One of my partners does on call IT support. I kind of enjoy teasing him when he's on calls

In a ball gown because that's how we roll in N. Devon

I used to have a pager that would go off at any time of day or night meaning I had to run off and jump on a boat. Does that count?

Funny you should say that, I’m late turn on call for a railway company as we speak. 7 days of 3pm to 3am, on my way home hoping I don’t get called back out again. Keep you fingers crossed for me

I did 20 years on call

The pay for the inconvenience of being woken several times a night was 'included in my salary'

My ex Mrs did 'on call' too, so we did 8 years of pretty much not getting a full nights sleep - if it wasn't my phone going off it was hers

I only do it once a month and the standby money isn't the best for 7 hours Monday-Friday and 12 hours on Sat/Sun, But a couple of calls make up for it
