We have hedgehogs in our garden. They seem to have an agreement with the badgers that they'll coexist and the badgers will eat out rather than hunting at home.

But they're damn clever. I watched one systematically take down the fence at the end of the garden on badger cam the other night.

Somewhere In The Ether…

The hedgehog population has been falling sharply for many years now sadly with only an estimated 1.55 million of these wonderful little creatures remaining in the UK.

Such is their plight that they have been officially classified as ‘vulnerable to extinction’ - a terrible occurrence which, according to some experts, could happen within the next ten years

So cute that dogs try to shag them, like that Bulldog on The Yorkshire Vet.

On a mooch

Haven’t seen any in the south for quite sometime, however the last ten days up north we had multiple hedgehog visits every night coming for food and drink. Was lovely to watch them, they are speedy buggers when get moving

If you have a fence marking your garden border then cut a little hole in the bottom. That'll help.

And doing the same on the other two sides, obvs. Thaat way they can get through all the gardens.

If you can get a traditional privet hedge or whatever too, that would help ALL the wildlife prosper.

Oh. And get a pond. Just shove an old plastic washbasin thing in the ground.

I'm not Chris Packham. Honest.

I have at least two in my garden. Feed them dried mealworms every night, see them most days. Had three last year. I'm sure two males and a female as the bigger two were constantly fighting. They are quite noisy little things.

Love hedgehogs, we call them

Spikey Norman's.

Don't tend to get them in our garden as we have 6 ft fencing round.

Do have a friendly squirrel we've named Charlie... its always bad when you name them

The cats and the hedgehog in our garden have signed a pact of mutual acceptance even when the hedgehog is nicking the cat food that has been left out at night.

I had one living in my shed, there’s plenty about, you just need to know where to look.

Hedgehogs are amazing creatures. Check out the British Hedgehog Preservation Society for ways you can help them in your garden. Shallow bowls of water and cat biscuits would be perfect for them.

We have lots of hedge pigs here, my stupid dog picks them up like puppies and brings them to the back door so he can bring them in and look after them, some of the ones we get are the size of football's and really pissed off about being picked up

Eating meat is part of their lives, as with 90% of all animals. An animal that doesn't eat meat isn't any cuter than an animal that eats meat.

Feeding dried bugs have no nutritional value for hedgehogs, you are better off with cat biscuits.

Near Marlborough

I’m sat watching one now from the hot tub. They can move really fast when they want to. Oh and I trod in a hedgehog poo barefoot the other day. That was grim

They along with the frogs and toads have drastically reduced the slug invasion on my veg! Last night i had to put a step in as the smaller one couldn't get onto the path. Dont forget if you have a pond pop a ramp in and slug pellets are poisonous to them
