"following on the post about first social meets, I am curious who has been on a first meet and felt a bit stuck. I mean wanting to get out but worrying about how to do so without causing offense? Not just fabs but in general. What did you do? How did you get out of the situation? " Only once. The guy was cracking to talk to online but in person or was like trying to get blood out of a stone. He just sat there and Hardly said a word. After about half hour we did the pre arranged secret signal for let's get going Said it was nice to meet him and left, after paying the bar bill! Fucker didn't even offer to buy a drink but was happy for me to pay for 3 drinks. Tight git. Actually that happens more often than you think guy's regularly don't buy a drink. Even had a guy go and get his own drink.

"Never. I've been on dates where it's obvious the other person was like "I'm totally not envisioning sex with this bloke" and I'm perceptive enough to pick up on that and just think what the hell, let's have a conversation anyway. I can talk the back leg of a donkey but also listen if somebody is speaking with a bit of passion and not just making small talk, so even dates that went nowhere were their own small success. " I would never walk away from an arranged meet and would at least stay for a drink and make some conversation. I can usually find something I like about a person, even if I do not fancy them or want to meet them again. If I feel I want to leave I will say so but I try and do it kindly. Does not always work though

"I had one date where the guy was just bizarre, can’t quite put my finger on it but he seemed really bitter and he was definitely older than his photo.. I felt uncomfortable but felt I had to stay out for a few hours to be polite.. the evening was horrible. After that I only did really casual one hour coffees. It really put me off meeting new people. " That sounds not just a bit creepy and I can totally understand you are now looking for short meets!

"No. I'm a bit bolshy like that. I have just left before now. " Maybe it is a matter of managing expectations as somebody said in the other thread?

"Sometimes, I tell a meet that I've got to get home because I forgot about my tesco order being delivered. " Brilliant! I'm going to use that one.
