Do you ever feel a bit lost? Direction-less? Sad, with nothing to be sad about?

What do you do when this feeling strikes?

Sit with the emotion, journal, do something you enjoy, go for a walk? Whatever appeals to you in that moment I guess.

For me, accepting that it’s ok to feel like that is the start, and then move onto observing the emotion and trying to work out what the trigger was.

Yeah I feel like that sometimes but I try find something to keep me busy. Video games and movies have helped me. Now that lockdown is over I’m trying to make new friends to chat to and socialise with.

I tried responding to a message about a social but turned out that ‘social’ was selective and anti-social and didn’t get a response/invite. Wasn’t helpful.

Honestly, I take a timeout day. Say fuck everybody else and please myself, usually by reading something cover to cover or going down a YouTube rabbithole of stuff that interests me.

Doesn't fix anything but sometimes I bore myself into cheering up

Nihilism does kick in once in awhile for me. All of a sudden, I feel what's the point in everything? Then I argue with myself that I can either be sad as fuck and keep fretting over it or enjoy the life experiencing small pleasures even if they are temporary. I find the latter to be the obvious choice and nihilism eventually leads to hedonism.

Don't fight it ? I'm sure almost of all of us feel this way and the lack of a 'why' can be disconcerting.

As others have wisely said, find your way home with familiar, simple pleasures: exercise, favourite food or music, book or box set. Something to anchor you again.

Take care, OP.

If this is how you feel right now, I'm sorry and I hope that it will pass quickly.

Feeling lost is kind of my default position but the things I do are not always healthy; they broadly involve some kind of distraction or things that release endorphins.

You don't necessarily need to figure out why you are sad because sadness is a normal feeling that is part of our emotional makeup.

If the feeling doesn't pass and starts impacting your life and wellbeing, then it becomes a health issue and there will be help available to you.

"why are you feeling like this OP?"

I don't really know, I should be happy. Just a wave of sadness came over me and I didn't really see the point in anything. I'm sure I'll pull myself together, I'm generally positive x

find a sensory stimulus that sparks positive memories. Smells or sounds work best for me; whether it be music, or a relaxing sound (you can find anything on YouTube), or the aroma of anything that triggers fond memories; let that fill you up, reminicing of good times focusing on the knowledge there's more to come.

I generally go for a walk and try to shift my focus outwards to nature, observing other people and animals etc. I find guided meditation helpful sometimes though as it helps me to a acknowledge the feeling without trying to analyse it too much.

Sorry to hear OP

I have this all too often and my 4 ways of dealing with it are;

Long dog walk in countryside. Drive somewhere totally random, get out and have a couple of hours with the pooch and nature.

Go and play golf but any sport/activity will do. All about shifting focus from the sadness to something else and if I hit a good shot then the endorphins help too.

Force myself to be social. I'll message a couple of friends or comment on a couple of threads to try have a bit of banter and drag myself out of the funk.

The last and least healthy one is I have a blow out. Arrange a night out/in with friends, get arseholed and press reset on my brain. But I know this isn't healthy and I wouldn't particularly recommend it.

Ultimately, find your happy place and stay there for as long as you need to recharge. You don't need to try and find a "why", it's a natural part of life. Just remember there's always a way back and it's worth it.

Hope you feel better soon, the door's always open if you want to talk (as I'm sure it is with anyone who's commented!)

If things continue please talk to someone. I've had possibly the worst year of my life this year and finally spoke to my doctor about 3 months ago. Hes given me some "happy pills" and said that they will take a few weeks to work but I feel better already. Not sure why I felt so low as Ive never felt like it before but the doctor was great ,(as usual) so give it a try

Does the reason why; if indeed there is a reason, matter? What matters is how she's going to get through it.

You could do what I did and put together a self-care bag. At one of my low points, I went online and bought a cotton tote bag that said "here comes the feelings you thought you'd forgotten". I then bought the following to go in it -

Oil burner set, notebook and pen, fancy shower gel, out of my comfort zone colour nail varnish, fancy yarn and a crochet hook, new pj's, my favourite chocolates and a large fluffy pink blanket. I also set up a playlist on Alexa of easy listening songs.

I don't think I've got anything to add that hasn't been said. Distraction seems to be the answer - it's certainly what I go for. A run a walk or even simply researching and mapping a route I'll probably never walk/run/climb.

I've learnt not to let the feeling take hold - that never ends well. Sending a big hug - one of those where you can lean on the other person and everything is somehow better just because they're there.

Take care.

Mr

I think a lot of us have felt similar especially over the last 16 months.

When I was feeling like this I found doing gardening helped even if it were 30 mins ing. The task distracted and the fresh air and sunlight cheered.

Failing that I'm a creative soul so I work on a current project.
