Well the female forumites can post as well, of course but....

I am curious if guys would kindly share which chat up lines have worked for them.

I asked in the other thread if "Love a MILF/GILF" as an opening statement in a message has ever been successful.

I am genuinely curious if anybody had a positive response to this or other, shall we say less complimentary messages?

How did you start a message on fabs that was successful?

I mean for me a "MILF/GILF" message is an instant turn off so I am curious what works for people?

The one that worked for me on dating sites was "tell me about your username".

I once dated this one woman who had beautiful profile pics, hundreds of guys after her all saying "you're beautiful/sexy/attractive" and I was the only one who asked her something meaningful to her, rather than guys projecting their horniness onto her.

I only asked because I googled it and got no hits

At the moment yes. Averaging two unique a day but it will tail off. It’s not confidence. It’s the opposite, having spent a few years when I was first here, reading profiles, crafting messages etc. Only to see it deleted unread or worse, read. I gave up.

I thought “fuck it” fab is a small part of my life, so I adjusted my profile, stated if “you’re interested, then wink” and I’m now happy to sit back.

Expectations. Managed

I think if I was seriously trying here, I'd read the profile, make sure I mention any keywords that prove I've read it, check their stated preferences so I'm not pissing in the wind but am in their looking-for slot, then try and make an interesting opening message that opens the door for a conversation.

Then not be a hassling dick if she doesn't answer in five seconds, or ever.

I fail to believe a single line no matter how clever it is will ever impress a lady enough to seriously work positively, it's almost as bad a text speak, However I suppose " fancy a grand for a fuck" might work sometimes.

Putting some time in and putting together a decent paragraph might get a better response.

Talking for myself, absolutely - the first messages opens or shuts the door to further communication. So MILF/GILF/FANCY A FUCK/ I am in your area today... are an instant showstopper whereas some guys do craft great messages.

No he is right. Not necessarily with women from the forums, but back when I was messaging, not only was it mostly wasted effort, it was then backed up by status/forum posts about men not making an effort with their messages.

Why? As long as you have read and understood their profile, made sure you fit their requirements or close and pen a respectful maybe slightly witty few lines you shouldn't get a negative response.

The best message I ever received on here, started with an insult. However as it was done in a very cheeky way and the guy obviously thought about it, it didn’t insult my intelligence in fact, it complimented me by knowing I’d get the humour behind the comment.

I always admire those who are unique in their approach or attitude.

I think having generic opening lines is half the battle lost already. Even if they're appreciated you still need to follow up with something original. My first messages are completely different depending on the person and profile. I've sent poetry and I've sent pornography (not literally!) and got replies to both. Know your audience?

Honestly, I don't think I have ever used a chat up line

The idea of 'chatting someone up' fills me with dread

I find it incredibly clichéd

My 'success' with women comes from just being a decent human, having little attitude or entitlement and not objectifying them or their company

I have had 3 relationships with women. Each one has told me I wasn't their type, but there was just 'something about me'

My success with men has been largely from meeting online and being overtly sexual, available and easy going

I've also had a relationship with a guy who told me the same as the women

I'm definitely this ones type though, so all's good

I read the profile - if I think I'll be a good fit for them as well as the other way round then I will generally say Hi, what caught my eye about them, ask them a couple of questions regarding their profile, add a face pic and a "look forward to chatting to you".

Unless I see a status and think of something to say in reply to that then the above is usually what I do

My favourite is to send a message based on the persons current status, usually something cheeky, 9 out of 10 times it gets a reply, and it has actually worked to build up a friendship (with the odd meet in the mix too!)

^^ Similar to me really ^^

If I was to send a first message purely off of someone's profile then something on the profile would have had to catch my eye and spark an idea of something to say - probably something 'witty'.

Any 'first' messages I've sent at the moment have generally been a continuation from a forum thread.

Oh my days - thank you for all your contributions - they made me cry (with laughter - so it is all good!)

So, guys DO message occasionally and they DO get responses, especially when crafting an individual message, maybe a funny one, maybe an original one.

So, there is a way out of the men bashing that women sometimes get accused of when venting their frustrations at getting one-liner "FAF" or similar.

How about us women try to be a little bit more tolerant towards your writing attempts while you guys continue to try a little bit harder?

Guys, don't give up - there are nice women on this site and we love your messages really. Just not so much the pre-dick-table ones
